The main opposition party, the UPND says it will hold its General Congress before the 2021 general elections.
UPND National Chairperson for Elections and Strategy Slyvia Masebo said the General Congress will be held any date before the 2021 elections as shall be agreed by the UPND National Management Committee.
Ms. Masebo said the dates have not been set yet but that the party shall have party elections at all party levels.
She said this will lead to the convention which in the UPND is known as the General Congress.
“Regular party elections are not only a requirement by our own partys constitution, but also a prerequisite of our current national constitution,” Mrs Masebo said.
“Therefore there should be no debate on whether the General Congress (convention) will be held or not. The question should be when?”
There has been heightened calls from some quarters for the UPND to hold internal elections following the party’s recent losses in local government and the Chilanga by elections.
However, some analysts have cautioned the UPND to approach the matter cautiously as the holding of a General Congress might open up the party to manipulation by its rivals who might sponsor weaker candidates who in turn might weaken the strongest opposition party in the country.
As an original party member, I am happy to hear this . But lets be very careful about who leads us. We have been infiltrated already by PF party members planted amongst our midist. We need to be alive to the fact that Bembas are plannig to take over our party. The strategy was to send GMB first and now followed by Kambwili. Please dear leaders, we came a long way with this party . Lets not give it up easily to the intruders. Mazoka’s body will turn in the grave. Let HH continue with the struggle and lead us to paradise.

The answer is simple; the party has lost popularity, that’s what happens when you have the same people in the same positions for too long. Additionally the party seem to have lost credibility, you can see this by the choice of their candidates and also welcoming anyone to the party as along as he/she is against ECL and maybe knows how to insult too.
UPND conversion is about HH, no other.

The Message Masebo is putting forward is to show every one that UPND is a democratic party and will hold Internal General elections to elect it’s leaders before going to the polls in 2021.

Ian Smith regime in Rhodesia used your tactic very well to fool Kaunda and also divide the Zimbabwean freedom movements ZANU and ZAPU. Rhodesian commandos would come into Zambia to plant bombs at ZAPU offices and then leave ZANU posters in order to fool Zambia and ZAPU into believing that ZANU freedom fighters had planted the bombs. Indeed Kaunda was fooled and expelled ZANU from Zambia. It’s all laid out in a book titled SEE YOU IN NOVEMBER by Peter Stiff. Stiff is now dead but he wrote a sequel which was published after his death in South Africa. The sequel reveals more including his real name.
