UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) says its defeat in last week’s polls is not a reflection of what will happen in 2021 when the country holds general elections because people still love the country’s opposition party.
UPND secretary-general Stephen Katuka said what happened last week where his party only won a single seat, while 13 were grabbed by the ruling Patriotic Front, will not repeat itself in 2021 when people go to vote in the general election.
“People are eagerly waiting for 2021 so that they can vote properly. Voters simply boycotted the Lusaka mayoral by-election. If you critically look at it [the Lusaka mayoral by-election], what difference would it have made to vote for a UPND candidate when the entire council and central government is PF?” Mr Katuka wondered
And MMD president Nevers Mumba has said that it was not unusual for a ruling party to win by-elections in the face of harsh economic conditions.
Dr. Mumba, who is also former Republican Vice President, said that results of most elections do not in fact have connection to the pain, concerns and needs of electorates.
Dr. Mumba recalled that even at the height of the MMD’s unpopularity, which was then the ruling party it swept all by-elections not until the 2011 general elections.
Dr. Mumba said that this entailed that Zambia’s electoral process and those of many other African Countries hardly addresses the views and wishes of the people.

You chaps as opposition need to regroup and get an independent person to lead the rainbow alliance, there are quite a good number of people you can shop around to lead the alliance, You are too fragmented, good for democracy but not good for dislodging the ruling party. Ofcourse with a good formidable plan, not dislodging for the sake of dislodging.

The problem with UPND is that you’re incorrigible and you don’t want to face facts. Instead of finding solace in self-deception just accept that you’ve continued to lose ground. The UPND has no grassroots structures because Katuka as SG has failed to mobilize the Party despite being on a salary. Davies Mwila has been on the move creating structures and rejuvenating the PF, the results are showing. What about you? UPND is only popular on social media

The UPND need to reflect on the just ended by elections and make a strategy for the coming by elections if any before the 2021 elections. Time is now to get to the grassroots and campaign vigorously. Tomorrow will be too late and boycotting elections is suicidal.
When PF started they were making inroads and finally unseated MMD. The same should be for UPND as opposed to losing seats now and hoping for 2021.

UPND and HH messed themselves up pa Chilanga by election when they adopted that lady Musonda despite people advising them not to do so. This angered a lot of UPND supporters and PF took advantage of this loss and the confusion in UPND. In the midst of the confusion in UPND PF quickly set up dates for the other by- elections. Ba HH fykuifwaila fye had he done the right thing when advised UPND was going to scoop the Chilanga seat and this mess was not going to be there. UPND continues to adopt wrong candidates who are not popular. Elections are about numbers noti ichisungu ka kanwa.

Katuka is behaving like KK (no disrespect meant ) who thought only him would lead Unip and Zambia. KK”s stubbornness cost Unip the victory and brought us this situation we find ourselves in. If you look around our region 99% of the countries have been ruled by the same political parties and only change presidents. That way you keep your policies and just improve on them. Here in Zambia because of the hatred opposition leaders usually have for the ruling leadership, once they get into power they will dismantle everything to do with the previous government no matter how good it may be. Just a little research gave me the answer as to why HH threatened the ECZ during the the Chilanga Parliamentary by election. Chilanga like all Upnd socalled strong holds has been manned by Upnd sympathizers as electoral officers. This time new and neutral personnel were brought in and HH went ballistic on the changes. Previously these guys would allow anyone to vote especially using left over ballot papers.
