A technocrat based in Chikankata District in Southern Province says the planned construction s by the Zambian and Zimbabwean governments to commerce the construction of a Four (4) Billion United States Dollar Batoka Gorge Hydro Power station in Southern province will greatly benefit the two nations.

Professor Clement Matente, says the joint Batoka Gorge Hydro Power Station project, scheduled to generate over 2 500 Mega Watts of electricity will be the first ever single biggest hydro power station that will greatly impact both Zambia and Zimbabwe, respectively.

ZANIS reports Professor Matente said in an interview today that it is also gratifying to learn that the meeting to ponder on how and when to kick start the project between the Zambian and Zimbabwean governments will commerce this coming October, 2018.

Once the project, the biggest in the region gets completed, the two neighbouring countries will have a boost for hydro-power thereby speed up the various social-economic spheres.

And Professor Matente further stated that government deserves a pat on the back, for its vigorous ambitious programme of constructing hydro power stations dotted across the country aimed at making Zambia, self-reliant in electricity generation in the nation.

Professor Matente said since President Edgar a Lungu assumed Presidency in 2015, his administration has initiated a programme of constructing power stations in different parts of the country which every Zambian is able to see and point at.

  1. THS WILL BE A GREAT ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER !!! WE THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA MUST STOP THIS AT ALL COSTS ! WHY NOT SPEND MONEY ON SOLAR POWER ? THERE MUST BE SOME AGENDA BEHIND THIS AND SOMEONE OR SOME PEOPLE ARE GETTING HANDED HUGE SUMS OF BRIBE MONEY TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN !

  2. We hope that Zambia is being prudent in this relationship with Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe still owes Zambia monies over the construction of Lake Kariba. It is understood that funding for repair work to dam wall at Lake Kariba was raised by Zambia. Given these bad experiences, Zambia should have concentrated on developing power stations on her own inland water bodies than continue to be short changed.

    • Stop your stupid hatred for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is on an upward trajectory and Zambia will benefit from a strong Zimbabwe. Ignorant fools like you think that Zambia should be competing with Zimbabwe which is dumb and stupid.

    • Musonda, I do not agree with the UPND ever, but he is correct. We cannot be paying for Zimbabwe always, they need to anti up and contribute the bigger chuck of cash for this project. If not, then Zimbabwe should import more of Zambia’s produce.

  3. Good Project and outcomes at 1.9 Dollars per Kw h (USD 5000000000/2500 MW) Zimbabweans are good brothers and neighbors it should be not of concern Let it go ahead
