Teachers warned against abusing pupils

North-Western Provincial Permanent Secretary, Ephraim Mateyo has warned teachers in Mufumbwe district against abusing their pupils especially the girl child.

Speaking during his working visit to Mufumbwe district, Mr. Mateyo said there have been reports of teachers taking advantage of pupils to the extent of impregnating them.

He warned them to stop the vice saying government will not spare those who will be found wanting.

The PS stated that teachers are supposed to be role models to the pupils and also an inspiration to community members.

Mr. Mateyo encouraged people in the community to report any cases of misconduct by teachers against pupils to the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, he has implored parents in the district to support government efforts in the fight against child marriages.

He said children have a right to education hence parents should ensure that no person under the age of 18 should be forced into marriage, especially the girl child.

Mr. Mateyo said government will not hesitate to punish any parent who will be found guilty of marrying off their children.
