President Edgar Lungu has called for increased stakeholder consultations with key economic partners.

President Lungu says the Economics Association of Zambia -EAZ- is a key stakeholder in the governance system.

The President was speaking when the EAZ Board led by its President Lubinda Habazoka paid a courtesy call on him at State House on Tuesday.

President Lungu commended the association for being revolutionary in its approach toward economic issues with the ascendance of the new board to power.

He said the EAZ should not relent in criticising government’s wrong decisions but also commend it for good decisions made.

President Lungu however stated that the idea of Zambians commending EAZ when it attacks government but accuse its leaders of having been bought when they commend government is retrogressive as people should embrace divergent views.

And President Lungu has also advised the EAZ to help enlighten the masses on the importance of paying tax which is key for national development.

He said Zambians will easily listen to economists talking about economic issues and not politicians.

Meanwhile, EAZ President Lubinda Habazoka is optimistic that the introduction of sales tax in the 2019 national budget will enhance revenue collection for government.

He said governments across the world which are using sales tax have recorded growth and increased revenue collection.

Dr. Habazoka also commended government for the new mining tax regime as presented in the 2019 National Budget.

He noted that some of the contents are in line with EAZ’s economic views on Zambia.

Dr. Habazoka says the new board has been engaging various state holders to regain the strength that the association once had.

After the meeting President Lungu took the EAZ board on a conducted tour of the state house fish pond to showcase his commitment to fish production.

He said fish farming has increased recently leading to shortage of fingerlings and has provided a market for soya beans among other ingredients for fish meal.

  1. Mr President. Resign. We gave you a very good chanced you messed up because you picked people like kaiza zulu and Amos chanda and Sunday chanda.

Things are bad. When we speak your cadaz call us upendi tongas

No sir. We voted for you but you have let us down on corruption stance.

If you want to cling to power beyond 2021 you may just be playing with a tiggers tail.

Hold press conference live on tv and radio not dark corner meetings with 10 people to win their surpot

    • You liar. I checked the ECZ data and it shows that your vote was spoilt ballot as you focused on writing insults on the ballot paper instead of just showing that you voted for HH

    • HH must resign! He has lost 5x! He wants to lose HAGAIN for a record sixth time! HAZALUZA HAGAIN and will never be a president but a PAramount Chief in Namwala District.

  2. EAZ unlike Kaonde’s or Chisanga’s LAZ has approached national issues with better perspective. They have set partisan politics aside and put the country first. Dr. Haabazoka and team deserve greater prominence in national issues. Step in the right direction. Unity of purpose will develop this country.

    • Kasonde is a UPND vuvuzela! Chisanga and Dr. Haabazoka are wiser and you can entrust these people with any office because they see issues from a professional perspective unlike the little boy who needs a diaper daily.

  3. Habazoka used to make sense before he started eating with them. Its sad really coz these are young learned people who should remain focused and pave the way for others to do the right thing. Now awe sure. Too much poverty in this country people are money hungry.

  4. Habazoka u needed to organise a team of people..young people and take advantage of the lack of a proper opposition party in the country. Get yourselves together and with the right strategies and plans in place awe we shall vote mwe. As it is 2021 pf will continue coz the opposition is disorganized.

  5. Dr Haabazoka deserves commendation as Zambian who wants to see prosperity in this country. Equally he realises there’s no place like home, just like I have never haboured intention to settle anywhere. Zambia is my heritage! So when I see EAZ engaging govt on economic matters it thrills my heart there’s a ray of hope on the horizon. Keep it up guys!

  6. Lungu needs go, meetings alone are not going to solve our problems. People are expecting results not talk, talk. It’s like these guys went their for some beer or just to beg for jobs. I wish we can stop bottom feeders from deciding for everyone, now we have a clueless arrogant leader who has no plan for the people but just to steal. These are surely wasted years

  7. Ok so that’s why this habazoka was for the past few weeks talking very favourably about the PF economic policies. They had written to state house for an appointment and so wanted to brighten his chances of actually being invited to state house.

  8. Ladies and Gentlemen the heading is the President meets Economic Association of Zambia!!! But why is HH featuring prominently? Zambians are known to be analytical not Insults please

  9. Where is the Economic advisory Council Any Economic advisory Council for the years 2015 to 2018 apart from the executive or line ministries They carried One to the President for 2018 Its important that the process is encouraged for long-term and be part of Governance
