Zambia Police Denies NDC Permit to hold a public consultative meeting

The National Democratic Congress says the decision by the Police command in Chingola to deny them a permit to hold a public consultative meeting yesterday is nothing but utterly absurd.

Police in Chingola on 12th October advised the NDC not to go ahead with an indoor meeting at Chingola Arts Society due to security circumstances in the District.

Party Acting spokesperson Misheck Moyo has complained that the Police command countrywide has on several occasions refused to allow the NDC to hold public meetings even in instances where the party is taking part in elections.

“Recently, our party consultant and 2021 Presidential candidate Dr. Chishimba Kambwili was not allowed to address a public meeting in Chifunabuli District where we had an election. To therefore promulgate that Zambia is slowly drifting into an authoritarian regime is not an understatement”. Mr. Moyo has said.

He said the NDC is a registered political grouping and they see no reason why authorities should not allow the hold public meetings.

“In the last eleven months, police on the Copperbelt alone have only allowed us to hold two public meetings in Ndola and Mufulira Districts. Even in areas where our members have been holding indoor meetings, such gatherings have always been curtailed”. Mr. Moyo lamented.

He has since called for the immediate depoliticization of the police service to allow the Police command to start making decisions that are in the interest of the general populace.

“We notice with concern that the PF and other political parties such as the MMD, an appendage of the governing party have been holding meetings countrywide without police permits. But the question still remains unanswered, as to why the police has been blocking the NDC from reaching out to the masses?”. Mr. Moyo added.

He has since warned that the NDC will be forced to take legal action if the police continue to muzzle the opposition.

  2. Police in Zambia is forcing Zambians to start a revolution. Zambian population is so big and we do not have enough police manpower to contain it. Chinese money has gotten into peoples heads But watch. Slowly even the pulizident will run away. Why deny our friends a permit, especially those from coperbelt? When jerabos get annoyed it will be like wildfire. I saw again WATCH.

  3. I was going to ask the police why. But then I remembered to ask myself in what capacity Chishimba Kambwili would address an NDC rally since he still belongs to PF according to himself? Which party would be held responsible if something happened at the meeting? PF? Or NDC? If Kambwili clarified that it is NDC, fine but then his court case with PF would be discharged against him.

  4. Kambwili you are now feeling the heat which we have been feeling for years now as citizens of Zambia under the rule of OF Government. You Kambwili you were the noisest when you were still serving in a corrupt OF Government. You personally looted a lot of our public resources for your personal gain, all because of selfishness and greedy.
Now welcome to the club my dear.
This is what we mean when we say PF is a Dictatorship Government under Edgar Lungu who has learnt a lot of bad manners from Museveni of Uganda and the fallen Mugabe of Zimbabwe.

  5. All of you applying for permits from Zambia Police Force are stupid, cowards and imbeciles. In Zambia, you just require to notify the Force about your meeting, not a permit. Cowards nowadays are hiding behind the veil of “iyo bakapokola nabakana ukutupela permit” Bukuwe fye ubo. Can’t you read between the lines that if you go against bakapokola’s wish and go ahead to hold the meeting, the people who usually come to cause confusion or disperse the crowd will not be the actual bakapokola but cadres from a known violent political entity dressed in ZPF fatigue? if you want to exist as a political party you better start resisting any form of oppression and repression from another political party. You must be equal in the political arena. Put your fear aside and fight back for your…
