China Startimes granted conditional merger with ZNBC

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has granted a conditional authorisation for a merger between ZNBC and Hantex Corporation which is controlled by China’s Startimes.

An application was made on June 20 for the merger of the two institutions.

Star Times’s shareholding in ZNBC would only be relinquished upon full payment of an over $270 million loan obtained by the government for the digital migration exercise.

CCPC Board Chairman Kelvin Bwalya Fube announced the development in a statement which now confirms earlier reports that the Chinese company had taken over the running of ZNBC.

ZNBC and Hantex formed a joint venture called Top Star, which is currently controls television signals on the local market.

But Government through its Chief Spokesperson Dora Siliya is still disputing the move.

In a tweet, Ms Siliya said Government will advise on the purported sale of ZNBC to the Chinese in a statement by the Competition Commission soonest.

Government has repeatedly denied reports that China is taken over the running of ZNBC after it finalized the controversial digital migration project through a loan which many observers feel was over priced.

    • 13. ZNBC goes to Chinese
      14. Fake Saudi oil deal.

Am not sure Zambia has had a president more riddled with scandals. Even FTJ in all his 10yrs did not do this much harm. This is a disaster. But he still has loyal followers on this blog, who want to justify his wrong. They can’t see beyond their political jobs in foreign service. They can’t see t that one day they will lose those jobs and suffer just like the rest of us. They can’t see that the future of their children is compromised. Greed can be so blinding. Lord please relieve us of Lungu

    • Over 500 Chinese Nationals are entering Zambia per month, immigration sources have confirmed to Top Secret. And the over 500 Chinese are being given permanent resident permits for them to live in Zambia.

The Chinese Nationals entering Zambia are all said to be coming to invest in Zambia and create jobs for the locals.

And immigration sources say some of the Chinese Nationals entering Zambia are recorded criminals who are being sent from that country to come and save their jail sentences in Zambia. So far China is leading in terms of sending it’s people to Zambia and immigration sources say this is because Zambia has borrowed a lot of money from that country.

Nearly all the provinces in Zambia have an influx of Chinese Nationals and in some instances the Chinese are even killing…

  1. Just waiting to learn what the new company name will be. The new owners might decide to broadcast in there language-Mandarin. Let us wait and see…

  2. Imagine 19 hrs news in mandarin Egiga youngu hash stholen kkkkk. No wonder they are now teaching mandarin in some schools. This is in preparation for the final take over by the Chinese. You can live in denial all you want, but soon the reality will come out. You have sold this country period.

  3. But should loans be obtained with such conditions? And this is our state-owned national broadcaster we are talking about!! We are in real trouble!

  4. I now understand why ZNBC has been so poorly managed.

From a strategic point of view we had a simple choice.

1.Fail to grow ZNBC and keep it analog against the SADC protocol we signed
    2. Implement our strategy using debt
    3. Implement our strategy by issuing ‘shares’ and losing some control

We chose a hybrid of 2 and 3 seemingly because of several ‘good’ reasons.

All we need to do is manage subscribers and content well enough to pay the debt.

  5. These people think we are kids.. Time ll tell
Some time back you can walk all day in town without meeting a Chinese but this time you can’t walk a 1km stretch without meeting a Chinese… They are allover even in the villages marrying our sisters

  6. #1.3 Journey Man “Lord please relieve us of Lungu”.
So long as the replacement is not Tr.ibal Hacks. Fortunately we have already prayed T. Hacks away, he will not be on the ballot papers in 2021…..kikikikikiki

  7. One down..more to go! It more effort and sacrifice to get out of this hole that is still being dug. If you are in a hole and you want to get out, it is common sense that you stop digging. But it seems we keep digging even deeper. But let’s not give up. We managed to change the one party system over night..so nothing is impossible. Bob Marley sang “You can fool some people sometimes. But you can’t fool all the people all the time”. So don’t despair, 2021 is coming but please let’s start looking at the quality of leaders both in power and outside. Your vote is power!!

  9. All these take overs are as a result of stealing/embezzlement. Let’s not mistake embezzlement for corruption… stealing is what it is.
This is the reason we have not made headway ourselves and almost believe whole heartedly that the solution lies in someone else to do for us that which we must do for ourselves.. what a shame..
The hatred we harbour for one another is equally unbelievable.. we do not value one another hence the current situation… letting children in villages go to chimutengo school whilst you build mansions in foreign land!!!

  10. Zambian people are peaceful and calm people. No amount of propaganda or inciting will make them rise up against the government of the day. Only time will tell and its business as usual. People have been lying, and they are lying and they continue lying.

  11. Can someone stop this nonsense please by hook or crook!!
We have NO PLANS to develop our Zambia.
    WE ARE SINKING TOO FAST.
WE NEED A RADICAL CHANGE QUICKLY.

  12. Awe mukwai nshaumfwapo I fya musango uyu. Conditional merger? Why is this being couched in politically correct lingo? It’s a take over
