Stakeholders call for enhanced security ahead of Mangango by-elections

Voters in Mangango constituency in Kaoma district, Western Province have appealed to Inspector General of Police to deploy more officers to the Province, to enhance security, ahead of the by-election slated for November 20th, 2018.

And calm has continued to prevail amidst heated up campaigns with only 16 days left before the by-election.

Speaking on behalf of other Voters, during an Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Voter Education meeting held at Chilombo market, Maureen Nasilele disclosed that most voters were allegedly intimidated on the actual day of voting, hence the call for enhanced security from the police department.

Mrs Nasilele explained that political cadres were fond of hiding in the bushes to stop those perceived to belong to political parties not of their preference, hence denying citizens a chance to vote.

She told ZANIS in an interview that the vice manifested during the recent Shikombwe Ward by-election in Mangango constituency, adding that voter apathy might occur if security is not beefed up to curb intimidation on the day of the election.

However, the residents have commended the presence of the police in the district, who have been deployed to help maintain law and order in the area.

And all participating political players have confirmed in separate interviews that campaigns were being conducted in a peaceful manner, and have pledged to maintain peace, during and after the said elections.

The Mangango Parliamentary seat fail vacant after the death of the area Member of Parliament Naluwa Mwene.

    • Zambia is about progress. A lot of progress has happened and a lot of developments! Keep focused Mr. President and the people of Zambia! At this time we can’t afford to have tribals destroy Zambia! All the best in the elections. I hope HAZALUZA HAGAIN.

    • Sorry I just ruined it. Meant to say ‘Zambia is NOT only about elections but about its beautiful people’. I hope I have rectified the situation and it’s blog-on!

  1. Stakeholders, first time that term has been used correctly. It has been used wrongly for a few years now. Zambians represent.

  2. It beats all logic on why a mature person can leave his with a profit less intention to go and harm another person.

  3. As long as the police will be fair in the issuance of permits and also remain non partisan then violence won’t be there.
