Mama Kankasa described as Zambia’s heroine

President Edgar Lungu has described the late Mama Chibesa Kankasa as a heroine to the country whose legacy will continue to be emulated.

President Lungu said Mama Kankasa has left an outstanding legacy of fighting for freedom and upholding national values, which will forever be emulated.

The Head of State said the late freedom fighter, who was also a former Member of the Central Committee in the first republic, lived a life of humility and patriotism, which is a factual lesson to the modern generation.

He said this during the Church service for late Mama Kankasa held at Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka this morning.

President Lungu said government evacuated the late freedom fighter to South Africa in order to save her life, but sadly she passed on.

He recalled that Mama Kankasa’s involvement in the political arena started in the UNIP days but her positive impact will live on despite her demise.

“I received the sad news about her passing away with profound sorrow. The nation and Africa have been robbed of a patriotic heroine. She had a helping hand for the needy and the underprivileged. Rest in Eternal Peace Mama,” said President Lungu.

He further urged Politicians to emulate the late freedom fighter, who was always keen on attending and taking part in national events.

Meanwhile, Family Representative Mwelwa Chibesakunda, hailed President Lungu for according the late freedom fighter a state funeral.

Mr. Chibesakunda described Mama Chibesa Kankasa as a family mentor who accommodated everyone regardless of their ethnicity.

He further said late Mama Kankasa always preached reconciliation and unity, both at national and family level.

The late Mama Chibesa Kankasa died on October 29th , 2018 at the age of 82.

  1. In a few days to come ,we will hear from Amos chanda that it is actually the opposition responsible.Build and maintain hospitals so that we stop sending people abroad . I’m not being funny but think Mana Kankasa could have died from age related ill health .Sending her to south Africa could have put a lot of strain on her already Knackered body .The move to send her to South Africa was politically and medically wrong .
