Ndola City Council (NCC) has disclosed that the construction of a mall in Chifubu Constituency will create about 800 Jobs for the youths.

NCC Public Relations Officer, Tiliyenji Mwanza said the mall will be constructed at Mpezeni Park which was formerly owned by the local authority.

ZANIS reports that Ms Mwanza stated that the property was sold off on the 9th of September, 2018 to RMB Westport Limited.

She disclosed that the agreement includes a clause stating that the purchaser should provide community development in terms of constructing three hospital wards at Chipokotamayamba Clinic measuring three by 15 meters each and a modern library at a site yet to be determined in Chifubu.

Ms Mwanza said the decision was reached at after wide consultation with the area Member of Parliament and Chifubu residents.

She further noted that Chifubu residents saw the old building as a menace that was used as a beer hall and illicit activities as well as harboring criminals.

Ms Mwanza said media reports in some circles of the media discrediting the council over this move is cheap propaganda and called on all Ndola residents to embrace the decision because it is progressive.

    • Another recreational park turned into a shopping mall, wonder why most kids are so exam leakage prone, lack of extracurricular activities for brain development.

    • Can’t we do mini Multi Facility Zones (MFAZes) for factories and manufacturing plants then we build malls later? I am so against mashrooming of theses Malls. I see them as money suckers.
Our leaders pilizi, do you think Zambians will only be shopping all their lives? Is that the study about Zambians? Shoppers? MMHHH? Bane, we can do better. Steel plants, Chocolate factories, Electric car manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Computer assembly, finished copper ornaments and jewellery, Car Assemby, Boat Making, Hand tools manufacturing, Office and household appliances and tools manufacturing. Electric cable manufacturing, shoe making, Cellphone and tablet manufacturing. The list is endless. Stuff in malls should be locally made. Chifi Sosala see what you were talking about?

    • Shopping Malls just take out and leave nothing but peanuts…the foreigner own the shopping malls, import all the produce and goods as for the 800 jobs those are just casual jobs and I would like to see how they came up with that round figure

So once these things are built who runs it…you can not run a park …how can you run a Library??

    • Ati a clause to build clinic wards and modern library. A clinic and library is not just the buildings. Who is going to stock and operate the clinic and library? Maybe the Ministry of Health might come in regarding the clinic, but with the library, I am quite worried. With the poor reading culture in Zambia, no one will even stand up to mobilise resources to buy the books.

    • Look at all the shops on the advert, they are all South African shops and you say lets develop this thing!!! what thing? you are basically creating more jobs for South Africans in manufacturing and the rest, for you a mall is development the thinking is to shallow, what opportunities or jobs will be created? selling and packing shelves and sweeping the same mall….. lets be serious

    • I wish they can make another Mall in solwezi though the people of solwezi like claiming that it is UPND who are doing it.

    • “I’m visionless, I have no VISION!!!” This is what he meant. 800 slave-jobs a cashiers, packers, cleaners at the mall.
KK let us with $6 Billion debt but he used it to build industries like Zamefa, Nakambala sugar, Kafue gorge hydro, Livingstone motor assembly, ITT radio & TV assembly, Fiat motor assembly.

PF00Lish Lungu will leave us with $100 Billion debt with not a single factory but only shiny roads & styopet malls full of imported goods. Will people eat roads?

    • Chizungu ba LT; Its not artist’s impression of a mall in Chifubu. Its not like you haven’t introduced it to us already. It is supposed to be artist’s impression of the mall in Chifubu

  1. Ms Mwanza how do account for those 800 jobs that will be created because not even the biggest mall in ndola has such kind of workers. Let’s be real when giving reports . In Zambia we have started giving reports to suit the news forgetting people are part of the same community and they know well what’s on the ground.

  2. Mpezeni hall!! I have fond memories of this hall, growing up in Chibufu township with my friends’ Wedson (Weddy) Nyirenda, Late Ackson (Scad) Shimbala and many more. We watched boxing matches in that hall and Ichihodi (Malawian traditional dances).

    • I 100% agree with you. In fact many people can not afford to buy things from the shops at these malls in Zambia because many of them do not have jobs. Please restore the Industries that once used to be in Ndola [my home town] so that people can have decent jobs so that they can make use of the malls, otherwise, these malls will just be white elephants. Why dangle a carrot when you know people can not afford it? God bless Zambia!

  4. That is the one way corruption we are talking about with PF ……why sell the site outright ?? Why not lease out the site to be reverted to the council after a time frame ?? Or even if a loan was obtained by the council and payed back with rentals from the mall ??

800 jobs ?? Temporal jobs ati jobs for youth ???

All this is sheer corruption without heart for the council of chifubu or the country as a whole….

  5. Fancy Malls full of imported consumables owned by foreign landlords whileregalar Phiri and Chifwebe shop by the dusty roadside .

  6. Where is Nokia,Motorola and other big companies, they are gone because they lucked innovation, reinventing. The question we should ask ourselves is what contribution was Mpezeni hall was contributing to Chifubu economy, with my little almost zero,it was a white elephant. How many people were employed at Mpezeni hall, mill,For me the best option for now is the mall and latter we may graduate to economical zone.

  7. We want manufacturing industries in which pensionable jobs are created instead of inchito yapa counter where workers are overworked for very small perks.

  8. Rwanda is opening up motor assembly plants and creating proper jobs, here it is just shopping malls full of imported products. Yaba!

  9. What should be encouraged is production not consuming for the economy to head towards growth. Malls dwarf and push multiple micro local traders who sale some home grown products. It is SMEs that are backbones for even mega world economies.

  10. Good old Mpezeni Hall, emo twaleya mukutamba Bascopo (Cinema) in the 70s. Ama filimo ya kwa Clint Eastwood. Kanshi staring mu bascopo, Tafwa. Awa Fye. I remember the Shape of the Hall very well. Twalenina na pa Mutenge uwa concrete. Was an excellent piece of Architecture. Anyway, times have changed. Will serve Pamodzi & Kawama also. Nabanesu, after ukutoloka injanji ku Kawama. Naibukisha pa Kamba Primary School. Good old Chifubu. Was Nick Named ku Moskow. Have the Bridges been improved on the Stream seperating Chifubu & Pamodzi? Kanshi nga ya pikinga Economy, twaleya mukutambila Filimo ku Town, ku Broadway.

    • My fellow Chifubu homeboy! Ku ‘Moscow’ named after the 1980 Moscow Olimpics. Had a good time growing up at Temweni before our beloved football ground was erased to the ground. We then supported Zesco United as our local team. We had Burton Mugala, Abraham (can’t remember sir name), Jericho Chilangu and a guy we called Kalala (“Kalala wanyanta pankola….”!! We would sing in praise of his talent). Stone Nyirenda lived just opposite the football ground but played for Ndeke Eagles.

  12. Good old Mpezeni Hall where we watched Boxing & Bascopo in the 70s. We used to climb on the concrete roof. Was Good Entertainment then. When the Economy picked up in the Pocket, we went to Town at Broadway Cinema.

  13. Will this Complex also serve Pamodzi & Kawama or they also have Complexes. Have the Bridges improved that seperate Chifubu & Pamodzi? Good old Kamba Primary School in Chifubu. Was nick named ku Moscow.
