The Bemba Royal Establishment has condemned individuals politicizing President Edgar Lungu’s humorous remarks in reference to the Bemba people.

BRE Spokesperson James Mulenga has told ZANIS in Kasama today that the Easterners and Bembas have since time immemorial enjoyed a firm tribal ‘cousinship’ adding that it is unjustified for some people to blow the matter out of proportion.

He said politicians should not use such innocent remarks to cause tension in the nation saying ‘cousinship’ among tribes has helped to promote oneness in the country.

Meanwhile, Foundation for Justice Integrity and Fairness (FOJIFA) Vice President Evaristo Chongo says the remark by the Head of State on Bembas should not be taken seriously and calls for for him to apologize over the humorous remarks are misplaced.

  1. Tell them this Upnd tribal party, they want to destroy our cousinship between the Nsengas and us Bembas. This great relationship has existed for years no so single party or individual call destroy it.

    • They are speaking as individuals and not on behalf of bembas because as bembas we have never gathered to discus the issue and NO owns another person we are in democracy and not chiefdoms of 1800.

    • For the record, there is no such thing as “Bemba Royal Establishment”. If you want to refer to the Bemba Royal Council, simply refer to them as Bashi Lubemba. For the Bemba king, refer to him as Mwine Lubemba Chiti Mukulu.

    • Tonga’s have a very low self esteem. Easterners and Northerners can co-exist with anyone that’s why other tribes are inclined to vote for a person from those areas. I say so because when I was at Uni, the Tonga’s isolated themselves singing Acapella, speaking only Tonga and exclusively befriending fellow Tongas and overtly begrudging other tribes.

    • The “Bemba royal establishment”. smh. The descendendents of those who sold their brothers to slave traders. As a Bemba, these people have done nothing to add value to the lives of our people. They sold us to the slave traders, they sold us to the colonialists for a few trinkets. And now they want to come and start sermonising?

    • Low self esteem is you always peeping through your fence trying to find out what you your neighbor is doing everyday. Olivia Pope at University you had no life of your own. Every thing in daily routine was shaped by your Tonga neighbors, keep neighborhood watching.

    • When us Bembas plan to take Edgar ku local court, it’s just a cousinship thing.
But I wonder why Pilato was arrested for “Te mbeba ni Koswe”.

  2. UPND has no time for serious issues, this is what they can offer to the people of Zambia and the next is chasing after court issues. Kwamana!!!

  3. STRAIGHT FROM CHINSALI.

THE BEMBA’S ARE NOT MOVED BY BWANA LUNGU’S COMMENT.

    REASONS:
    1. HE IS ENTITLED TO AN OPINION AS A MBUYA.
2.WE KNOW WHO THE REAL THIEF IS AND HIS ORIGIN, PERIOD.

  4. The opposition have run out of ideas of how to fight Lungu. They have tried everything including his identity. I wouldn’t take them seriously because they will always amplify everything out of proportion. Any Edgar just visit us and apologize for the misconception the joke has created.

  5. I have grown without knowing that Bembas are mbuyas to all easterners. I only know that Ngoni’s do. Me and Msoni know this very well. For example the annual golf tournament has always been between Ngonis and Bembas. I have never heard anything like Nsenga, Tumbuka, Chikunda, Chewa V Bembas golf tournament. So you will never hear a Ngoni call a bemba by such names as thieves. Remember the only chief in Eastern Province who was a friend to MCS was Mpezeni at the time he was not liked. Guess why? The rest were not because of Lupiya Banda’ s attitude towards Ngonis.

  6. This comment reminds me of Mr Sata, when he was the Minister of health under President Chiluba, who used to say that the Easterners are the ones who like spitting around Lusaka City and making it dirty.

That statement only united us even more.

So this is nothing at all.

  7. Chiefs should be banned like in Tanzania. They bring nothing to the table and they are a drain on our resources. They are normally compromised and think they have authority to speak on our behalf.I am a bemba but i always get dissapointed with statements from these chiefs. Let them at best speak for themselves am sure even their children and spouses get dissapointed with them.LET SOSALA SPEAK FOR HIMSELF…

  8. Washanga , washanga amafi yabanani? This useless man called washanga is always useless , remember when Late Sata differed with chitimukulu , this is the man who played dabble standards. He is corrupt to the core. this are the people we call ba kapulikoni in bemba . Bakupa, ulesunako . nikakwini akasuma , nokuputilisha. Nikamusange munshila. Nikachimbwi mumbululu. if you feel lungu did not insult you then eat his money . us Bembas feel very much insulted . bakandile shaleni nechisushi chakwapanya . ifwe tatukongwa nshima, nanama . Some of this corrupt chiefs who don’t have much following , even if you use them as useful *****s , it will not help you. Namubomba kale kuntulo , kwisamba yalepita. Fwebabemba natufulwa , Lungu nilinga akani mwikufi. Takala mwebwa . Nifwe baciinga walabwalabwa…
