The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) says the union and government are still on the table negotiating over the salaries and conditions of service for public service workers.

CSAWUZ General Secretary, Makayi Makayi said the two parties have not concluded negotiations in the scheduled time frame hence, they have extended the 2018 corrective agreement to March 2019 to allow for the parties to reach an agreement.

Mr. Makayi said the Union and Government wrote to the Commissioner of Labour to allow for an extension which has since been granted.

He noted that the extension of the collective agreement by the labour commissioner is in accordance with the provisions of the law in order to allow for the two parties to conclude negotiations.

The CSAWUZ SG told ZANIS in an interview that the union submitted their demands to government on salaries and other conditions of services and expects to sign a collective agreement by 31st March, 2019.

He however, could not disclose how much or the proposed percent the union is bargaining with government saying he can only disclose once the negotiations are concluded.

And Mr. Makayi has dismissed rumors that the unions has proposed a 2% salary increments saying none among the unions on the table has suggested such a percentage.

He said members of the CSAWUZ should remain calm as their union is bargaining for a better increment and improved conditions of service for them.

Mr. Makayi said his union and 11 other unions are currently on the negotiating table with government for a pay rise for its members who are public service workers.

  1. Y negotiating after the budget has been approved & do u think u can have a good increament?
Next time,do it b4 the budget is presented 2 parliament..

  2. If this union understands the term austerity then it must know that there is nothing for the workers. The government has no money. Has the 2019 budget got the provision for the increments?

  3. Pay salary arrears owed to civil servants before you calm them down. They too have children in need of school fees. All ministers and senior PF government officers have their school children fees paid by government.

  4. Make sure you get the same percentage increase that the president and other got and also make sure the increment is backdated to January 2018 Just like they did for themselves.
