Efficient Nkana crush San Pedro

Nkana’s 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup group stage hopes brightened on Saturday following a 3-0 home win over San Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire.

The result leaves Nkana needing a draw on January 20 away in Abidjan to advance to the group round that kicks off on February 1.

Ronald Kampamba put Nkana 1-0 into the break when he turned in a pass from Joseph Musonda.

Musonda and Festus Mbewe, who replaced Walter Bwalya in the 66th minute, then put the result beyond doubt in the 50th and 86th minutes respectively handed Nkana the victory to cap an efficient performance at home.

Nkana, who were demoted from the CAF Champions League in December, are hoping to qualify to the group stage of continental competition for the first time since 2014 when they campaigned in the CAF Confederation Cup after also dropping from the top tier that season.
