Zesco United on Sunday continued a good weekend for the Zambian clubs in continental action this weekend when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in a 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage first leg tie.

Zesco’s victory came just 24 hours after Nkana beat San Pedro of Cote d’Ivoire 3-0 up the road at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe in the first leg of the same competition.

The game at Levy didn’t disappoint with both sides serving up an entertaining Southern African derby in which Zesco did all the scoring while Chiefs dictate the pace led by midfielders Lebogang Manyama and Khama Billiat.

Lazarus Kambole broke the deadlock in the 24th minute before Jesse Were added the second from the spot in the 29th minute after he was brought down by Teenage Radebe.

Billiat ensured Chiefs went into the break armed with a goal when he beat three defenders in the 43rd minute.

Were then completed his brace in the 54th minute but Chiefs felt an injustice in the 68th minute when Billiat’s goal was mysteriously ruled out for offside.

Billat, though, continued terrorize Zesco’s defence but was frustrated by an inspired Jacob Banda in goals for Zesco.

Meanwhile, the two sides meet in the final leg on January 20 in a 20h00 kickoff at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg with Zesco needing just a draw while Chiefs must win 2-0 to deny the former a place in the group stage that begins on February 1.

  1. Chiefs are rough at home mukose baice. Chiefs are one of the most cerebrated teams in SA.
Play attacking game. Take the war to their own half and be rough!!!
Play clean and win clean unlike some parties that keep on cheating!!!!

  2. Congrats Zesco, but let’s find means and ways of bringing more supporters at the stadium, you will see at FNB stadium it will be full to the capacity. If it means reducing the price please do so. Players are always 11 but supporters are the 12th on the pitch.

  3. Congrats Zesco. Hope they wont beat our people in South Africa…as they killed one Zambian girl in Joberg after Jr Chipolopolo beat jr Bafanabafana

  4. Poor reporting it seems BILLIAT KHAMA SCORE ANOTHER GOAL IN 54TH MINUTE FROM THE REPORT BUT 68TH MINUTE DENIED SO GOALS SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3-2 , WHICH IS WHICH TELLS U PIPO WHO WENT TO THE SATDIUM? GOOD FOR ZESCO THOUGH MWEENE WAS NOT FEATURED BY KIAZER ZULU CHIEFS, HOPE ALL GOES WELL ON 20TH JUNE IN JOBERG FOR ZESCO CHICKEN

  5. LET ME EXPLAIN MY POINT TO BEMBA THIEVES BILLIAT SCORED IN 43RD MINUTE AFTER BEATING THREE BEMBA DEFENDERS THEN HE FINISHED HIS BRACE AT 54TH MINUTE BUT HIS 68TH MINUE WAS DENIED WHAT IT MEANS IS THAT KAIZER CHIEFS SCORED 2 GOALS BY ONE ZIMBABWE INTERNATIONAL BY THE NAME OF KHAMA BILLIAT BUT THE FINAL SCORES ARE REORTED LIKE 3-1

  6. The game was controlled by chiefs, we used experienced to win and we will do the same at the empty FNB stadium in jozi.let non cheat you..zesco will support, all pirates fans will be with us!! Only thing chicken need to do Is to STOP using maybin kalengo and make use of right defenders, we struggled in defence with Akumu!use solomon and never misheck on the midfield infact sign sign an midfilders

  7. Football they are winning but coming to their main duty is a challenge. People have intermittent power supply for over a week now in Foxdale, Roma, Meanwood and so on. And the previous months as well

  8. ZESCO SHOULD NOT PLAY UNOPEN GAME IN FIRST HALF BUT TRY HIT THEM ON COUNTER ATTACK THEN IN SECOND HIT CHANGE THE TO THEIR HALF IT WILL BE A DONE DEAL

  9. ZESCO SHOULD NOT PLAY A OPEN GAME IN THE FIRST HALF BUT TRY TO HIT THEM ON COUNTER ATTACKS THEN IN THE SECOND HALF CHANGE THE GAME TO THEIR HALF THEN IT WILL BE A DONE DEAL
