Chambeshi backs Nkana to reach CAF Confed Cup group stage

Coach Beston Chambeshi is sure Nkana will defend the 3-0 first leg advantage when they go to Cote D’Ivoire to face San Pedro in the return match of the 2018/2019 Confederation Cup pre-group stage.

Ronald Kampamba, Joseph Musonda and Festus Mbewe scored in the first leg tie at home in Kitwe on Saturday as Nkana brightened chances of advancing to the group stage.

This result leaves Kalampa needing a draw on January 20 away in Abidjan to go through.

“I think we put up a good fight. Playing against San Pedro was not easy. We could have buried the game with five or six goals but I am happy with the result ,” Chambeshi said.

He promised to prepare his players mentally for possible intimidation in West Africa.

“For sure we have to pysch our players so that they go to Abidjan with a big heart. This is a big competition where every team wants to use tricks to win matches away from the pitch,” Chambeshi said.

Nkana, who were demoted from the CAF Champions League in December, are hoping to qualify to the group stage of continental competition for the first time since 2014 when they campaigned in the CAF Confederation Cup after also dropping from the top tier that season.

  1. Defend by all means, but keep an eye out for an away goal which would be priceless & make San Pedro’s job even harder, so that whatever you do, don’t defend too deep…

Good luck, you can do this…

  2. Teach Walter Bwalya and Kelvin Mubanga that it’s note mandatory that they don’t have to be substituted even if they’re not playing well.
