The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has blamed the Kulima Tower flooding on people who deliberately block the drains in order to cash in on people who use the station.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Brenda Katongola said that the council is aware of the scheme by unscrupulous people who are blocking the drainage in the Central Business District areas in order to cause floods so that they can make money from people making their way through the stations.

Call-boys are cashing in on people using Kulima Tower bus station, Chiparamba and Freedom Way roads by carrying them on their backs to cross flooded areas.

“People are deliberately blocking the catch pits along Freedom, Chachacha and Chiparamba road around Town Centre market so that they can cash in on people trying to make their way through, especially in Kulima Tower bus station. Kulima Tower has an underground drainage system which is constantly worked on but it has come to Council’s attention that this is being deliberately engineered by unscrupulous people.

Ms. Katongola warned that the Council will deal with the law breakers once caught saying such people risk facing legal action.

The Council is appealing to citizens in Lusaka to be vigilant and look out for such people who are retarding the development of the city.

  1. That’s the funniest and most lame leadership reasoning i’ve heard since the days of naming the “Gabon disaster stadium”

    • Every year this station gets flooded. Why can’t the council then through their security wing secure the catch pits to prevent these ‘Call boys’ (Cadres) from blocking them thereby causing flooding. Ba council please wake up.

    • People are using initiative baili the government can’t create jobs and everything is expensive, what do you expect, people need to eat, the government is also busy enriching themselves

    • Our poor drainage system is the cause of too many problems, quality of roads are affected by not having proper drainage systems, diseases are spread as a result, refuse piles up when drainages are not cleared. We have failed to develop.

    • This is what we call making the ends meet. Those on top, are busy stea.l.ing and those on the bottom trying to find a way out, its survival !!
You can’t blame them, would you?
And this Public Relations Manager is not talking about any solution, just whining.ng so what do you expect? Next year it’s the same thing.
Tiyali embarrassed them, and they are trying to find someone to blame. As Usual, not taking responsibility. I have said this

    • This excuse can only come from a country whose leader loses his mental faculties due to regular consumption of alcohol . It is more or worse than sending sending twenty five people to go and receive four tenders in America . Guess what ,the media will be populated by pictures of the twenty five tax payers spenders receiving the van .It will not show them doing the shopping which they have gone to do .

    • When I was growing up in Lusaka…I remember a period when our local park was well looked after by a dedicated caretaker…he used to plant the flowers, water them …anyone found playing in the flower bed was kicked out and banned for a well.
These are just lame excuses by workshy people, if you cleaned the streets and have people cleaning these catchpits you wouldn’t have this problem…anyway this is an era where the President disappears on the 8th even has the audacity to escorted to KKIA for basic medic checkup.

    • Its a clear lack of systems in place…they dont have timetable and cadres being in control. As for Sampa he was the wrong candidate for the city as he is part of the rot…we told you vote for anyone but a PF candidate but you didnt want to listen.

  2. so you are aware of these people and what have u done about it?silly excuse the drainage system in zambia is pathetic, kulima tower has been flooding for years and nothing has been done just as garbage will always accumulate in town due to poor infrastructure and methods of handling refuse,in lumumba road the drainage is as big as grand canyon yet its open

    • This what happens when you let cadres run bus stops and markets. Any way SADC has called for an emergency meeting over disputed DR Congo election
Talks called by southern African bloc comes as the constitutional court begins hearing an appeal against vote results.
Allegations of fraud has cast doubt on the outcome of the December 30 election.
A southern African regional bloc has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) disputed presidential election, as a court in Kinshasa began hearing an appeal against the results announced last week.
Opposition candidate Martin Fayulu filed a court challenge over the weekend, demanding a recount, claiming that he won the presidential race with 61 percent of the vote.
      But the DRC’s electoral…

  3. The council should consider moving the chi kulima tower from the heart of the town centre to stop the chaos caused by lawless bus drivers who block chachacha and freedom way.

Please bring back the soldiers onto the Lusaka CBD to help restore sanity or someone jerk the Lusaka Mayor out of his slumber. The Mayor shouldn’t continue to be miles deep into sleep when law abiding residents are unable to drive on Lusaka roads because of the unruly behaviour of a handful of pro govt cadres. No ways!!!

  4. Miles Sampa ni lost cause as mayor of Lusaka. The chap is unable to think beyond the lie of free internet Wi-Fi and the so-called multi-storey graveyard.

Awe kuwaya wayafye ba bwana Sampa.

    • You were cautioned by former Minister of Finance and veteran politician Alexander Chikwanda’ s daughter who termed the PF mayoral candidate a fool and an *****.
In a shock post on her facebook page, Bwalya Mwamba Chikwanda inquired if PF Secreatry General, Davies Mwila had made the official announcement.
      She wrote;
“Has the official announcement been made declaring ichi wele wele, nechi puba cha muntu a candidate?”
Bwalya is supposed to be an aunt to Miles Sampa.
The Patriotic Front have announced that Central Committee has adopted out of 31 candidates, Miles Sampa as Lusaka mayoral candidate.

  5. Okay but why don’t call boys do the same to City market, Lumumba and Millennium bus stations? Why don’t these bus stations flood? Are there no call boys there? Just sort out the mess at Kulima tower

  6. In short, Lusaka mayor ni mbush1, he is go@t meat. No salt in him.

For him to peddle these lame excuses, means he takes us for f00ls who are devoid of any iota of grey matter.

Nafulwa sana kuti na mwikatamo mambala lyakwe

  7. If you know them ,why are you telling us?is it us to take action or you the authority. Wake up and talk less.

  8. Bus stations are in the hands of PF caders, markets are in the hands of PF caders. so madam just be open and mention the guys deliberately blocking the drainages. I have helped you with information, so finish the details now

  9. Where is tiyali ? When tiyali shows up with his phone footage that’s when you see ka miles Sampa trying to clean rubbish and look like he is doing something….

  10. So LCC is admittedly saying they’ve failed in their duty of oversight and enforcement of city bylaws .Resign incompetent PFools leave the job to scape goat free administrators.

    • Give alternative solution. The problem is that that we have some people who keep saying forward foward foward and insulting . They are as clueless

Forward with WHAT. It must be foward with failure

  11. @ Masansa,i totally agree with you,the markets,Bus stations are in the hands of PF cadres,so there lies the problem!

    • In Zambia the highest legal qualification one should possess in order to become a civic leader, is a grade 12 certificate, this should be extended to voters as well. Twalema naba chivotevote .

  12. This is laughable. Its clear that the council has failed to do its job and busy pointing fingers in wrongs directions. Come on Tiyali we need that barefoot footage of Kulima tower now. Lets enjoy the drama. Kilometer Visampo somebody has failed!!!
    Disaster!!!!!

  13. Thats when engineering comes in.

Are these call boys more smart than an engineer who spent 4yrs at school.

Forexample raise platforms were business is done. Lima tower bus stop ground level can be raised by +500mm and other foot passages

  14. The storm water drainages are very small and they easily get blocked with plastic. We need 3 new underground drainages 2metres diameter to drain water into the open drainages under construction especially western side of CBD

Am a non partisan political consultant

  15. I will tend to disagree with you on this one.It is not deliberate but our bad culture of throwing litter every where exacerbated by council poor waste management. This area has been flooding nearly every rain season.

  16. No one is blocking drainage. CBD storm water drainages are
domestic . Construct 2m high underground drainage and lets see if call boys will block it

  17. NO WONDER NOTHING GETS DONE AND WE WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS YEAR AFTER YEAR – ALL THE PF CAN DO IS BLAME SOMEONE ELSE WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG INSTEAD OF SAYING – LET’S FIX IT SO WE DON’T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. IT’S SHAMEFUL AND THE PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER AND THE REST OF THE COUNCILLORS SHOULD BE DISMISSED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT !!!!

  18. CBD is a dam. Water has now were to go. Stop scandalising these boys who are providing a service out of you failure

Carry out topographic survey and open up water passages

  19. What do you expect from pathetic failures and their supporters like KUDOs?
Because these call boys are a creation of P.F. as cadres, they should let them continue with this creative business to survive. It is another way that P.F. is creating the 500,000 jobs promised 3 years ago!!!!!! What a circus!!!!!! No wonder skeleton KUDOs is MUTE.

    • Kikiki, you have made my day, kupapa is one way of creating the 500,000 jobs promised by president Lungu lol…
On a serious note i dont think he has even created 10,000 jobs, meanwhile before delivering 500,000 jobs he has already promised 1 million jobs…kikiki viva President Lungu…ecl for 2021…kikiki

  20. When you have leadership with this type of reasoning know that you have a big problem.

You know what is happening, what are you doing about?

  21. Where are Miles Sampas 100 days deliverables? These are are the things that should have been included and held him accountable, but you let him smear feaces in your faces and voted him on wifi fimo…fimo…

  22. Ubushilu of the highest level….. Lusaka CBC has no proper plan hence the blockage of drainages….no your reasoning can change the flooding

  23. This is simply the Most Outrageous statement i have ever heard in a decade…….sheer incompetence and failure to do the right thing.

  24. Mind you the people running Lusaka City Council are PF cadres who have no knowledge of running the local council hence such an outrageous statement. People should be ashamed of themselves for making such silly statements. It is better to go back to the basics instead of monkey statement, next we will hear it is the opposition causing the floods.
