WEEKEND SCORECARD: Eagles Win Cheers Chiyangi After Star Players Exit

Share

Green Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi believes Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Buildcon is an encouraging sign following the departure of two influential players from the club.

Ronald Chibwe and Spencer Sautu second half goals easy early concerns following the departure of key strikers Tapson Kaseba and Kennedy Musonda.

“My worry was with the striking force, as you know, we have had the other two strikers who have left but the ones who played accounted for themselves so well despite missing so many chances but I think they put in a lot of effort,” Chiyangi said.

“Kennedy Musonda’s contract ended so he couldn’t renew it because he wanted more money and Power Dynamos offered him more money than we could offer.

“Tapson was offered a contract by Buildcon so he is also leaving for Buildcon.

“(Goalkeeper) Robert Mwanza has also left, Mufulira Wanderers requested for his services and he going there.”

Musonda leaves Eagles as the clubs top scorer in the league on 5 goals and another three in continental action while Kaseba heads to Buildcon with just two goals after a quiet start to the 2019/20 campaign by his high standards.

“I think in football these things happen. Today, two or one players can leave the club but what is important is to plan. So we have already put measures in place and we will bring someone who will come and add value to the team,” Chiyangi said.

Eagles are currently third on the log with 30 points, one point behind second placed Napsa Stars and leaders Zesco United who are tied on 31 points.
