WEEKEND SCORECARD: Nkana Determined to Stay Put in Top Two

Sports Feature Sports WEEKEND SCORECARD: Nkana Determined to Stay Put in Top Two

Nkana coach Manfred Chabinga says the onus is on the Kitwe giants to ensure they stay in the top two after attaining second position over the weekend at the midway point of the 2019/2020 FAZ Super Division season.

The record 12-time champions beat second from bottom Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy 1-0 on Saturday at home in Kitwe to join leaders Green Eagles on 33 points after 16 and 17 games played respectively.

“It is very important. We have been talking to the players that the performance is good but we have to keep the momentum, we have to keep the focus,” Chabinga said.

“We shouldn’t lose it, once we lose it, we will give other teams an opportunity to take that position.

“So, we have to maintain it but to maintain it, we have to work extra hard.”

Nkana are a point ahead of Napsa Stars who drop from second to third while defending champions Zesco United are fourth on 31 points.

The complexion of the top two may change this Wednesday in Lusaka when Zesco and Nkana visit Nkwazi and Zanaco in rescheduled Week 8 and 13 fixtures respectively.

Nkana last won the FAZ Super Division title in 2013 and finished second in 2018.
