Following a string of electoral losses in Western Province, the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has with immediate effect dissolved its Western Province executive committee.
The Party has since appointed Nkeyema Member of Parliament Kapelwa Mbangweta, as interim Chairman for the Province until elections are held.
UPND Chairman for Elections Garry Nkombo, during a media briefing, said that Njamba Musanja, who was Provincial Chairman has been replaced with Nkeyema Member of Parliament Kapelwa Mbangweta, while Mbanga Mbanga who was Provincial Youth Chairman has been replaced by Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kangombe among other changes.
Mr. Nkombo has cited intra-party wrangles in the area.
Recently the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) grabbed a ward from UPND in an election where there were no campaigns due to the COVID-10. The winning of a local government by-election in Nangula Ward by the Patriotic Front (PF) made it 4 wards lost by UPND, in Western Province in the past 4 months and by considerable margins.
In 2016, in Nangula Ward, the UPND candidate polled 776 votes while the ADD candidate polled 185 votes, while PF candidate polled 283. UPND won the seat with 57.74 percent with the turnout in 2016 for Nangula at 61% for the local government election.
In 2020, the PF grabbed the seat with a total of 868 votes, against its 283 votes in 2016 while the UPND polled 341 votes against its earlier 776 final vote for 2016.

Garry when UPND won that seat the elected member went and told the truth about corruption , non development, how bad the PF was. but wait he got elected and no one heard of him till the next election. I have woken up with a terrible stomach ache. However for the love of my nation I shall persevere to comment. First thing I notice, is how quiet it is on this comment. The opposition biased rifraffs in diaspora like tarino anonymous and the other asylum seekers will not comment on anything negative about their cult the upnd. The reason the upnd lost is because even their grassroots members have lost confidence in the top leadership. Hh is not a relatable person. As for UPND and its loss of grip on Western Province; well, this was quite predictable if only the leadership of this Party were amenable to advice and criticism. You can not have the same failed characters in Party leadership positions, same stale message year after year, same dictatorial politics/leadership, same failed strategy, and expect people not to grow tired of it. I see the same thing happening in NW province if UPND does not change its approach to politics…..stup1d politics of preventing their MPs from working with Govt to spar progress in their constituencies…..BAD STRATEGY!
UPND is lacking grassroots leadership especially in rural areas.This is dangerous for 2021 general elections.
In cosmopolitan areas ( Lusaka,Chipata and Livingstone ) They will be voters apathy because voters are frustrated with low turnout of economy .But still PF will be leading up by small margin in Lusaka based on Bemba – Eastern cohesion politics.In Copperbelt,UPND will be trailing in the end because of what is happening with mines owners who are known to be pro- UPND.On this one UPND will lose .PF team and Mines unionists everyone sees how they engage mines owners day and night to secure jobs for c/belt residents this plus for PF.

The trouble for both parties is that none of them can predict who will win the 2021 elections. Just look at the COVID-19, which party ever could predict that? They were all busy fighting over Bill 10 and the eligibility clause. Only God knows the future, and I mean the real God, not the fake one who attends those church services where they raise their hands as “christians” as they openly or privately donate all manner of financial and material gifts from questionable sources or with questionable objectives.
The real God for sure knows who will become Zambia’s next President in 2021, 2026, 2031, 2036 and so on.

Elected officers are held to account in places like northern-western, northern, copperbelt, and lusaka provinces unlike southern province where you just have to lie that the government is corrupt and non functional and people will vote for you again

As usual the UPND wasted a lot of time crying rigging, corruption, buying of votes. When they finally admit the problem is in their camp PF has advanced with other plan of grassroot mobilization. In in 2021 UPND will spend another two years crying over PF victory while PF will be busy advancing were they will not do well. This is the difference between UPND and PF. It is Rabbit and Turtle kind of race since 2006.

This is why Kaizer got into a fight with the MP at Chicagos, ECL won’t stand, and he has agreed to let KBF stand, in th hopes that KBF does not pursue any prosectuion for the President and people around him. People that make presidents win are not even seen on any media platform. HH does not have people to win him an election, the people the do the ground work like the likes of Dovis Chama, Mumbi Phiri. By elections are not a barometer for the mood of the people. Almost 80% of by elections are always won by the ruling party as they put all the might and resources into that one election. The true picture will be seen during general elections.

Upnd’s undoing has been its total underestimation of Edgar Chagwa Lungu from its leadership and supporters. How can you say “anybody is better than ECL”??? Sata was a political genius and he picked this guy from amongst a horde of power hungry people from both in and out of PF-GBM, Kambwili etc who were made popular by Sata are finding life difficult without him and trying to undermine ECL; Fred, Mutembo are equally in limbo for underestimating ECL. When you respect your adversary’s strengths and plan well to counter them, then chances of success increase.
