B-Flow turns down an invitation from government to attend today’s Youth Engagement Meeting

Share

Musician Brian Bwembya popularly known as B-Flow has turned down an invitation from government to attend today’s Youth Engagement Meeting.

B-Flow has cited lack of inclusive, short notice, failure by statehouse to respond to his letter, lack of freedom of expression on the agenda, and security among other reasons for his decision not to attend the event.

The meeting organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Child Development will be held at Government Complex.

Below is a full write up from B-Flow….

WHY I WILL NOT ATTEND TOMORROW’S YOUTH ENGAGEMENT MEETING ORGANIZED BY MINISTRY OF YOUTH.

I have just turned down an invitation from government to attend Youth Engagement Meeting owing to the following reasons;

1. LACK OF INCLUSIVENESS: Government has only invited 50 youths on the basis of Covid-19 restrictions. Secondly, I feel the meeting has been rushed and does not give an opportunity to youths outside Lusaka to participate. Thirdly, the list of speakers does not include youth influencers such as Pilato, Mutale Mwanza, Wezi, William Wapi, Chellah Tukuta etc and the general youth population.

2. SHORT NOTICE: The Minister of Youth has only made the announcement today that youths who wish to participate should register at the Youth Development Council. In my opinion, this meeting needs to be rescheduled to allow youths ample time to register and I have advised government as such.

3. MY STATE HOUSE LETTER: Although State House has not yet responded to my letter, the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting is exactly what is in the letter I wrote (youth challenges and opportunities).

4. AGENDA DOES NOT INCLUDE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: We want to be heard. The agenda for tomorrow’s meeting has “mining and construction” but does not include freedom of speech. I feel attending this meeting does not fully address the real issues that concern the youths.

5. SECURITY: The Youth Engagement Meeting will be held at Government Complex which is next door to Intercity where suspected PF Cadres who are threatening my life are found. Further, when I asked government to assure me of security, the reasons given as to why there won’t be massive police presence are not convincing. I will not allow myself to fall into another trap.

I have respectfully advised government to cancel tomorrow’s Youth Engagement Meeting and consult the youths before organizing such important meetings. Once beaten twice shy. #NothingForUsWithoutUs

By the way, let’s not forget about Bill 10. #SayNoToBill10

  6. I don’t know why Govt is in panic mode to even call for such a meeting. Upon someone coughing, govt gets to call a roundtable. Why is this govt so intimidated or being made to work under pressure. The sensible thing should have been, never pay attention to these jokers calling for revolution. You legitimising their claims.

  9. B Flow should just go again to State house.

    He is representing himself.

The first letter, he wrote by himself. He is not a serious person.

In fact he is not even a youth.

  10. Damage limitation- anyway it’s not too late to salvage the little reputation you are left with. The fact that PF are doing this is that it has dawned on them that govt change is always instigated by the youth. ECL is on the path taking us back to Stone Age. We never experienced 24 hours loadshedding, day light looting of govt resources, rampant corruption, lawlessness in pre- PF era.

  12. The story of B-flow is now Boring. If he turned down an invitation so what. The other day his fellow musician went to engage government officials. It was a slap on bflow’s face. They don’t agree with the steps he is taking. Pilato failed to start a revolution. A night in police custody has humbled him. He has realized that some people are just using him, at the end the day he is suffering alone and broke.

  13. That is his right. No one is forcing anyone to attend. We wont be given conditions by one mere citizen. Others will attend and am sure they will inform him of what is discussed or decided or better still he may read about it on his Facebook. We are not going to baby anyone and bend over backwards to self entitled infants. Yes you are youth but youths are adults too. Grow up. With or without you we are still winning the elections.

  16. Very wise youths, and please I don’t belong to the opposition. It is good to see a youth stand up to what he believes in. Those are principles which in this part of the world are regrettably looked at as being disrespectful or being labelled belonging to opposition. I liked the interview on Diamond TV by a youth who when asked by honourable Lusambo if those artists who were advising the President were more intelligent than the President and interviewer bluntly said it could be so. In short and rightly so this youth interviewer was reminding him of the TRUTH that the president is not the most intelligent man in the country, and that is what the minister was unfortunately thinking. Youths must stand up to what is right but stay within the law

  17. BFlow is a wise boy. Surely future Minister of Youth and Sport and maybe in future the ministry will have the word entrepreneurship in it – youth, sport and entrepreneurship

  21. Hello All,
That’s a good move. The PF government has to know that they can’t buy everyone.

I personally think the time is up.

  23. The so called youth are so used to cash handouts from pf , who in turn use them as thugs to harrass the opposition , that they are all going expecting cash handouts.

Only lungu is broke and was hoping for covid money or IMF bailout.

    PF ,
we warned you long ago that the brown envelops or kasaka kandalama as lungu puts it , that you were substuting for real jobs for youth , will come back to haunt you.

Now pay them the youth those cash handouts they are expecting…

  24. Mmmm…too many reasons. From my own analysis, B-Flow is just afraid of the critics; those who condemned him when he went to State House on the first invitation. My advice to B-Flow is that he does not need to make a bad decision out of fear. Do what your heart tells you to do without fearing the critics. Better to have a free conscience than to please a bunch of disgruntled individuals who wont be there for you.

  25. Bane atleast alot of Zambians are reading this bflow/youth meeting. This is also the time to go the kitwe way for zambian/businessmen.
The govt should be engaged as organiser of the meeting between Zambians and Chinese.
    Terms of references
    1. Types of Business Chinese/Sudanese should engage in
    2. Places of business activities
    3. Payment for engaged employees.
    4. Any other business.
This idea is born out of the meeting that took place in kitwe where Chinesewere told not to go and establish business in compound markets like wusakuli, deke, kwacha etc

If we as Zambians, choose to stay quiet lets then stop complaining.

  26. B-Flow just enjoy your reward from the recent contact you had at statehouse and back off from blinding Zambians…it’s common sense I guess!

  27. Let me repeat what I said earlier. The youths will influence who becomes our next king. Whoever will manage to win their hearts is our next king. My opinion is that bill 10 ranks below youths.

  28. Yangu ba bflow. Naimwe mwalikwata ama balls ati?
Kikikikikikijukija I don’t support your stubbornness. Watching this space with keen focused eyes.
Don’t spit on an extended arm from boma. You have sent your message already.
Atleast we know you got some balls.
“Co cise Co cise coooo ciiiseeeeèey!
    Ndundundu paluputa?”

  29. Chenda – Government is in panic mode because the youth make up most of the population in Africa and luckily they make up for the numbers with high voter apathy so something like that this that has got youth talking about leadership and economy is not good for the ruling party.
