United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Stephen Katuka has questioned President Edgar Lungu’s silence during yesterday’s Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Presidential Summit.
Mr Katuka wondered why the Head of State and his party’s Secretary General Davies Mwila could remain taut to their seats at the two-hours long summit and fail to put the ruling party’s position on a number of pressing electoral issues on the table.
Mr Katuka said it would not be wrong for anyone to think that President Lungu and his Secretary General kept quiet because they knew they were well represented by the ECZ officials and a number of their surrogate political parties. Some of these parties lacked depth and seriousness in the deliberation – to a point of asking Mr Lungu for his daughter’s wedding cake.
“A meeting of this magnitude, attended by the Head of State has not yielded anything as it was a usual talking show. Worse still, the entire Republican President and his entourage, came for this meeting; sitting there for more than two hours and just walked out without saying a single word,” he stated.
That shows how they belittle important meetings because they cannot say anything; meaning even the processes that have done, they have not endorsed whatever has been said. Because if they did, they could have said something even commending ECZ for the meeting,” said Mr Katuka.
In his usual fashion, Mr Lungu, who came late for the Presidential Summit, sat mute for two hours; without a word.
The silence by the Head of State and his entire entourage in yesterday’s ECZ organised summit was a display of irresponsible leadership and confirms Mr Lungu’s lack of commitment to a credible, free and fair election in the forthcoming 2021 polls.
I think it’s good he kept quiet. Had he said anything he would have being accused of bulldozing or high jacking the meeting. “Kabimba’s cake request” was an ice breaker! Let’s be humorous in our politics. Remember he was SG for PF. So they are still friends. Just push for ECZ to do the right thing.

its a genuine question. Why would I turn up for a summit like this one and then say nothing? Especially if Iam the ruling party president. Whatever conclusions the opposition come up with will be justified. First of all Edgar must be commended for attending that meeting, but he didn’t attend as PF President because he’s also HE President of the Republic of Zambia. If the UPND can’t get it then they can get lost! A President doesn’t speak anyhow because all his public pronouncements become policy. By not saying anything, he gave chance to the conveners (ECZ) to independently address concerns of other stakeholders. Davies Mwila can’t say anything when his Party is being represented by the President just like Hichilema spoke on behalf of the UPND. UPND leaders must grow up. They shouldn’t always look for petty issues on such important national matters. Indeed it’s an Under 5 Party, and unfortunately they have been so for 22 years now. GROW UP!.

It was wise for Lungu not to talk. Any word from him would have been considered government position and weaned the ECZ. On this one he did very well. Give credit where it is due.
Actually, some how Lungu is looking more & more like a leader these days ka. This guy was just a kachaso boy when he landed that job. Some even described him as kwati aka kwasokwa. Today the kachasu chap looks more mature. When he talks of becoming experienced in the job, its showing. We only await him focusing on using that position to create an economy for the country. People are not eating development projects. Let him realize that, then he will be far ahead of these charter boxes.

The PF Opposition surrogate Parties spoke on behalf of PF and ECL. Its all planned to manipulate the Voters Roll. ECL knows he can’t get 50% + 1 without manipulating the Voters Roll. Bill 10 Law plus Voters Roll manupulation will give ECL and PF a win.The law is very clear on how the Voters Roll should be updated on a continuous basis. The idea is to disenfranchise Voters in UPND and HH’s perceived strongholds while inflating Voters in ECL/PF perceived Strongholds. The Plan is as clear as water. The writing is on the wall.
Unbelievable! The people supporting his silence above, at ‘government policy’, no wonder we continue to match backwards in this country while the rest of the world matches forward.
Lungu is a presidential candidate in this race (albeit an illegal one since he already served his 2 terms) and so he’s a player and a stakeholder just like everybody else running. He’s not any more or less than those other candidates on the ballot paper. ECZ is meant to be an Independent institution and Lungu can’t speak for it even if he is a Republican president. He was there in his capacity as president of PF and not president of Zambia (do you know and understand the difference?).
Ask yourself, why did he go there if whatever he said was going to be misinterpreted as government policy? If he was…

Country men and women, we gotta be serious in the way we look at national issues. This isn’t about Lungu, HH or yourself. It is about the future of this country and you want to shape it for your children and their children.
Look at Trump right now being vocal about that country’s independent electoral process, particularly those about mail voting. Lungu should be similarly voicing his issues that he thinks would disadvantage him and his party. But we all know that Katuka is right when he says Lungu was well represented by the bias ECZ and by the non entity sycophants minions of Sakwiba, Kabimba and Nawakwi who have personal agendas against HH and have sold out their souls to Lungu. Pathetic!

I thought the political parties who attended the summit stated their position just like upnd did and wanted these parties to support them? They were just disappointed that they didn’t get the support from other political parties. If ECL was quite for the entire two hours, it meant that HH spoke for the entire two hours. No wonder ECL could not speak bcos HH was just talking. So whoever is against upnd, has been bought by PF. By the way Did Milupi attended the summit?

2. Additionally they are the ones accusing ECZ of stealing votes on behalf of pf so it was right that they werre given chance to ask relevant questions thhan listening to silence. This was time for them to tell ECZ that they knew that the elections were rigged and how.
I sum up that these chaps are not fit to be put in government because even if they were to be given a chance they spend all state money on crying.

I have said it again and again and I am saying it again. KATUTA IS THE WEAKEST POINT IN UPND. He speaks without thinking just to prove to his PAY MASTER THAT he can speak.ECL went to that meeting to listen and did just that. The President should have said something, even just praising the ECZ for organizing such a meeting and also preaching peace(even when we all know he does not mean it) and encouraging the ECZ to be an institution that people should have faith in. Keeping quiet sends wrong signals, as if someone is hiding something or as if he had prior knowledge of everything that would be said by the ECZ
So these 1diots in UPND wanted something to use against Lungu. Everything that was discussed in that meeting were well known. If it was not for HH usual cry baby politics the voters register was not going to changed. UPND and HH do not know were they are coming or going.
Scientifically it has been proven that in-breeding is not good for anybody. There is 100% in-breeding in UPND and it cant be good for any body. The case of Katuka questioning why ECL was quite in that meeting is a typical example of the negative effects of this in-breeding. Oh my God. We are discussing the silence of a leader and we forget the substance that we were to discuss. Issue is did the ECZ pledge attend to the concerns of the parties present? PF does not see anything wrong with the current voter re-re-registration exercise because they approved it. Our electoral process is in serious risk. The Republican President came as PF President. If he cannot talk, his SG could have talked as the party’s executive officer. Lungu will rue this day when he could have behaved as President to say what he says in private under the sheets for the whole country to know. Lungu is like the god Janus. He has TWO faces.
