Police in Chinsali have formally arrested and charged Sesheke UPND member of Parliament Romeo Kangombe with two counts of abduction and assault.
Confirming the arrest and charging of Mr. Kangombe, Counsel Cornelius Mweetwa of Muleza Mwiimbu and associates said the lawmaker in the first charge faces two counts of abducting Sergeant Innocent Mwale and Constable Chinyama Chipango of Mununga police post on October 14th,2020 contrary to section 253 and 255 of the penal code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Mr. Kangombe is in the second charge facing two counts of assault of the two police officers contrary to section 250(b) of the penal code.
Counsel Mweetwa said the suspect has been denied bond with the police insisting that the docket has been sent to the National Prosecution Authority and remains hopeful of Court appearance at the earliest possible time to enable them apply for bail.
He has also dispelled rumours that Mr Kangombe had collapsed after being poisoned at Nambuluma police station.
Several Members of Parliament, National Management officials and Muchinga provincial and district officials have since arrived in Chinsali to offer solidarity to the incarcerated lawmaker.
One wonders where Zambia will be by voting time next year. Chances are that many opposition members will be in custody, just to prevent them from participating in the general elections. Currently PF leaders are actually campaigning all over the country in the name of party mobilisation or projects inspection, but any opposition leader who notifies police of a public gathering is stopped due to the Corvid restrictions. Is this fair? Corvid only applies to opposition groups?

But why are they going about abducting the Police, beating and confiscating things from the NRC issuance station (Mucheleka and them), why are they fighting the Police??
Obviously its an open secret of the mountainous political environment but why are they playing right in the hands of the Police? The acts they are committing can not be overlooked simply because its UPND, a crime is a crime. Look at Anthony and his friend, who goes on TV with a stack of NRCs forged or not you are bound to be questioned. Who does that? Again playing right in their hands….
One need not a prophet to see where our leaders are sending us. We are gerbils heading for a collective plunge down the cliff. Someone must pull the emergency brake here. My fervent fear is that the caliber of leadership we have appears hellbent to just throw the cards in the air and dance on the betting tables half-dressed in drunken melee! It might be too late if this escalates beyond this stage.

Today he assaulted police officers maybe tomorrow youths will get the courage to do such criminal offense. And in the end, nobody will respect our police officers. Entire police department holds high esteem. We must respect them.

Kangombe is completely fit and fine, no chemical poison was given to him even Counsel Mweetwa dispelled these rumors. His party members lied because they were scared by his arrest.

All I will say is that let the law take its course. Glad the police are clearing out your violent bad eggs especially so before elections. If you cannot live in a peaceful civilised society then best to take you out of if and put you together with your fellow criminals theire in jail
