The Lusaka Magistrate Court has granted National Democratic Congress (NDC) Leader Chishimba Kambwili 300,000 Kwacha cash bail pending appeal.
Mr. Kambwili who is currently in detention after he was sentenced to one-year imprisonment with hard labour for forgery and uttering a false document appealed against the sentence in the Lusaka high court.
When the matter came up for bail application hearing, the convict’s lawyer Musa Mwenye asked the court to grant him bail as the appeal procedures and requirements have been met.
However, the state objected stating that the convict has not clearly shown under what circumstances the bail pending appeal should be granted.
In delivering his ruling Magistrate David Simusamba granted Mr. Kambwili bail on condition that he pays 100,000 Kwacha cash and provide two working sureties from reputable institutions who will also pay a total of 100,000 Kwacha cash each.
Magistrate Simusamba said the set conditions are due to the convict’s conduct which he exhibited during trial. He said the conditions have to be stiffened now that Mr. Kambwili is a convict.
Meanwhile, UPND Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kang’ombe has been granted bail after he pleaded not guilty to two counts of abduction and assault on police officers.
The suspect took plea before a Chinsali Magistrate Court.
In this matter Mr. Kang’ombe is accused of having abducted Sergeant Innocent Mwale and Chinyama Chipango of Mununga police post.
Mr. Kang’ombe is being represented by Mr. Cornelius Mweetwa.
Mr. Kang’ombe has been granted a 200,000 Kwacha bail but in his own recognizance with two working sureties

Yayi kulibe K300,000! Ni bail ya bwanji iyi? Is Chidumbo Kambwili a flight risk? Any police man or woman would be able to catch up with him if he tried to flee. Unless the magistrate thinks the police force is too unfit to keep an eye on Chishimba
K300,000 is only about USD$14,700.ECL and the PF’s money is now worthless.

Under Levy Mwanawasa K300,000 was equivalent to USD$90,900.

We are a corrupt society that is why when someone is punished for his/her criminal activities we all rise like monkeys to defend the criminal among us. How much did Kambwili steal as a result of his criminal activities, how long did this go on? He boasted that he could fly to England & back just to have tea. And yet some gullible citizens keep on defending this convicted criminal just because he is preparing to marry the quack they support.
Why wasn’t he arrested when he was in government? Because of what you are admitting: we are a corrupt society. There’s no justice here. Its a political agenda. how long did this go on? Yes how long is this going on because plenty thieves are in govt?

How do these judges calculate these bail fees?, the disparities are just too huge
one cadre attacked police at their own station, a case which initially was aggr robbery was turn to assault = bail fee K20,000.
Kang’ombe case also police related = K200,000.
I think the TRUTH and PUNISHMENT commission in 2021 should also look at who gave the command and who pulled the trigger in both Vespers Shimuzhila’s death and Mapenzi Chibulo’s cold murder. Justice should be SEEN to be done. It cant be business as usual. NO
A f00l is soon parted with his money. The evidence before the court is overwhelming. The judgement was lenient because the sentencing guidelines for such offences carry a prison term of between 3 to 5 years. This coward was only given a year.
I can’t see any appeal judge finding an error in law or material change in circumstances. In fact he will be slapped with a longer term. The lawyers are having a good time misleading this dull guy. Anyway the wife didn’t seem that intelligent when she spoke to media so am not surprised.
Temporary relief. He’s fond of faking sickness and absconding from Court. If he does that this time around, bang! and the K300,000 is gone. Now the High Court will deal with him. I hope his lawyers, who prepared an appeal before judgement won’t abandon him. I was shocked that he even appealed against a count on which he was acquitted. You people must sober up and see things in reality. Don’t put yourselves were you aren’t. CK’s kutumpa has now put his family in an awkward situation and I don’t think that is all necessary.
