30 days is Enough for ECZ to to register Eight to Nine Million Voters -Inonge Wina

Republican Vice President Inonge Wina has reiterated that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will conduct the registration of eight to nine million voters in 30 days.

Mrs Wina said the ECZ has assured the nation that the registration of voters will be done within the stipulated time frame.

She emphasized that members of parliament should not liken the voter registration to mobile National Registration Card issuance because it will have more access points.

The Vice President said this in parliament today during the supplementary question time from Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu.

Mr Mwiimbu wanted to know whether the Electoral Commission of Zambia has any plans to discard the 2016 Voters’ Register; if there are such plans, why; if there are no such plans, how the newly registered voters will be included in the 2016 Register; and what mechanism the Government used to determine that over 1,400,000 voters needed to be deleted from the 2016 Voters’ Register as stated by the Vice President in Parliament on Friday, 23rd October, 2020.

In her response, The Republican Vince President explained that ECZ has assured the nation that they will capture the required number of voters in the given period.

“The ECZ has promised and assured that they will register between 8-9 million voters in 30 days. Member of this house do not mistake voter registration for NRC mobile registration because ECZ has promised to do the job within the stipulated time frame and let us all support the electoral body where we are not sure we can seek clarity,” she advised.

Mrs Wina emphasized that once the new voters register is ready, the old one that has about 1.4 million deceased voters will be discarded.

The Vice President further explained that when need arises for extension, government will look at other modalities and resources.

The ECZ is expected to commence the registration of voters on the 9th of November to 12th of December 2020.

  1. With the technology that we now have why shouldn’t it be possible? This government is not like upnd which doesn’t progress with time. They have lost election over four times but continue to field the same loser. Us we progress with technology. Come next election it will only take us 15 days to process this.

  3. Does it mean that at least 1.4 million Zambians have died since 2016? Or how did ECZ come up with this estimate? The mind boggles…

  5. What Bo Inonge Wina doesn’t realize is that during elections people queue for hours to cast their vote. There’s no one who’s going to queue for hours to get registered as a voter. People can’t abandon work just to go and register. Besides it coincides with the planting season. Farmers will be busy on their fields. These tricks are typical of the MMD. The MMD used to put elections well into the rainy season so that they cause confusions and rig in the process. If you have noticed that you have lost popularity don’t cause confusion. Just accept that all isn’t well with you. Depart with honour otherwise if you begin to force matters you might end up in a very embarrassing situation

  6. Am reliably told that the current voters register has been in existence since 2006. Going by the Central Statistics office projections, there are over 1,400,000 (1.4 million) people who have died since. Now, you & I must have known a relative or friend who has past on in the last 15 years. Have we ever attempted to report such cases to ECZ so that these people are removed from the register? The answer is NO. Now, do you expect ECZ to guess that A & B have died so that they are removed from the register
? Why should ECZ spend millions of money printing ballot papers for voters who are deceased & won’t go and vote? This cost is avoidable….U always complain of low voter turnout each election, this could be attributed to deceased voters. Lets give ECZ the necessary support to conduct…

  7. THIS PF LEADERSHIP IS FULL OF IFIKOPO. I HAVE NOT HEARD THEM SPEAK OF ONLINE NRCs AND HOW MANY NRCs HAV THEY COLLECTED DUE TO DEATHS AND YET PEOPLE DIE EVERY DAY. WHAT criterion have they used to gage voters who hav died?

  8. Lab technician is still talking about UPND. Lamentations of bill 10 still continue. They assured their boss, so now to cover up, they have quickly moved to eligibility to try and make up. Yeah men of little faith…. And the other chaps who were putting Bill boards are busy licking their wounds, it is democracy, don’t blame UPND. You can adopt the Youth, the disabled and the women in your party even without Bill 10, not sure what your issue is.

  9. Who would take serious what a dead woman is talking about. At this moment Zambia has no Vice President.
