Zambia has detected nearly 2,000 cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours from 55 districts across the country.

Minister of Health Jonas Chanda said 1, 796 positive cases were detected from 9,577 tests conducted across the country bringing the cumulative total of confirmed Covid 19 cases to 36,074.

Dr Chanda disclosed in a press statement issued to the media in Lusaka today that 950 cases were detected from screenings at healthcare facilities and 688 from routine screenings while 110 were contacts to known cases.

He said 312 patients with Covid 19 were currently in admission with 202 on oxygen support out of which 14 were critically.

The Minister said 1,001 patients are due for discharge bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 25,106.

Dr Chanda said 10 people died to Covid 19 related conditions in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative mortalities to 537 out of which 203 are classified as Covid 19 deaths and 331 as Covid 19 related and 3 still remain unclassified.

The Minister urged Zambians to mask up as this measure has been proven to be effective in curbing the spread of the Covid19 pandemic.

Dr Chanda stated that studies have indicated that masks used by asymptomatic patients and family members have helped reduce secondary transmission by nearly 80 percent.

He said every Zambia must comply with public health measures as announced by President Edgar Lungu to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.

The Minister stressed that mandatory masking up, social distancing, washing hands and sanitizing and avoiding crowded places will help suppress the transmission of the virus and save lives.

Dr Chanda further urged the general public to heed President Lungu’s advice to utilize home based and traditional remedies as part of efforts to fight the pandemic.

  1. Dr. Chanda is glaring at us from behind mask, because ‘we’ve been naught’. We’ve ‘misbehaved’. Welcome to the Great Reset and the New Normal, where governments around the world have put themse lves in charge of managing flu season. This is tyranny through medical emerency. If this is what the WEF has for us, we have to say no.

  3. At least this new minister Sunday Chanda’s brother, his report is concise even his file is highlighted likewise unlike the crook Chilufya who was cooking figures without any care for the health of the citizens. Its ironic that whilst cases are rising PF still continue with their mobilisation all over the country like witnessed in Kitwe where one cadre was putting his name forward for the mayoral seat.

  4. An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.
Many internet trolls from developing countries are actually dangerously depraved people because their viciousness is agenda-driven. Whatever they write, they write deliberately, not on impulse, and this puts more purpose into it.

  5. Despite the spike in cases countrywide, the mortality rate still appears to remain low. Other parts of the world would actually be happy to have such figures and they would even relax their restrictions. Meanwhile, let’s continue to hope and pray the situation does not worsen.

“let’s continue to hope and pray the situation does not worsen.” she says …you are really gullible and docile if you think prayers and hope will scare off corona.

  8. 2000 a day! I agree with what President Trump said. The more you test the more cases you wil have.
Now that you have given us these statistics ,what next?
Just telling the nation that mandatory masking up, social distancing, washing hands, and sanitizing, and avoiding crowded places will help suppress the transmission of the virus and save lives. is now not enough.
It time to take strict measures of addressing the Super spreading events: Bars, Taverns, Markets, Bus stations, Liquor restaurants. Ministry of Health and the COVID 19 experts please look seriously into this. Good that schools won’t reopen till next month.

  9. Meanwhile lungu and lusambo are campaining without regard to social distancing……

This covid speard is caused by PF and their desperation to cling to power.

The disregard for social distancing by PF as seen in their campains is deliberate.

We see lungu using the spike to delay elections…..

  12. The results are taking too long to come out in Public Hospitals/clinics. 1 – 2 weeks is just too much as possible Covid 19 patients will continue spreading the virus before knowing their status.

  13. It appears most African countries are experiencing or exercising herd immunity. It is all good. Meantime, let’s observe public health rules and personal hygiene. Olo ma bandana you can use as masks monga cowboy.

  14. Are these 2021 figures?
What happened to the 2020 SARS-CoV-2 figures?
This desease is serious and funny.
So it sounds like it’s air and contact borne. Highly contagious and misterious. It is there when you think it isn’t. It goes when infact it is coming mutatively. Corona virus is a witch. It must be a female virus. Umupampamina wacilamo. Sometimes it only comes real when it claims one of your own. It only comes real to me when I watch foreign news; how it is hammering the Americas and Europe imwe. Mamamama! No jokes Sars ashupa.

  15. The SARS Cov 2 virus kills under 3% (liberal estimate) of the people infected. It is not a deadly disease BUT and this is important, IT IS A NEW DISEASE. What this means is that it will infect more people at once that any other infectious illness if it is let rip through the community. If 1 million Zambians were infected in a week, about 150,000 will need hospitalisation and 7,500 of these will need intensive treatment. With a good health service, 10,000 will still die. What can we do? For now we must limit as much as possible the number of new infections. Avoid crowded and closed spaces. Sanitise and wear masks in public. Limit the number of people you meet. Let us spread out new infections over the year. As for doctors, let us get all the drugs that have been tried, hydroxy CQ,…

  16. Keep up the good fight Dr Zambians must also learn to keep themselves safe by keeping to the instructions from the medical advisors.
This virus has taken the centre stage of all diseases in this world and everyone is panicking, however statistics show that Africa the whole Africa :
78,000 people have lost their lives in this one year due to corona virus.
    In Africa every year .
malaria kills : 360,000 people each year .
Aids kills : 1,000,000 people each year.
Now consider with me have you ever heard anyone talking of a vaccine for either malaria or aids, at least I haven’t heard about it.
You know this virus is not able even able to kill a hundred thousand in a year in the whole Africa .
Why don’t the world want to focus attention at malaria and aids which kills more…
