President Lungu Receives Full Report on Police Shooting of two Citizens

Share

President Edgar Lungu has received the full report from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kakoma Kanganja on the shooting to death of two citizens in Lusaka last month.

According to the brief statement released to the media by State House, the President has studied the report and has since handed it over to the Director of Public Prosecution for her attention.

The President has, however, stated that the due process of the law must take place.

Last year President Lungu directed the Inspector of Police, Kakoma Kanganja to use every resource available to fully investigate the murder cases in a circumstance in which the two victims were shot.

President Lungu urged Zambia Police to investigate the matter as quickly as possible and that the deaths of the two Zambians would have been avoided indicating that it seems the country have cast aside the values believing in politics or politicking must be this country’s daily bread.

“My heart goes out to the families of Nsama Nsama Chipyoka and Joseph Kaunda, both of whom were killed by an unknown assailant or assailants yesterday in Lusaka. I am grieving with the families of these victims. My sincere condolences to the families,” the President said at the time.

The Head of State explained that it believed that it pays to spend time at police stations and courts, as cheerleaders of politicians, even over cases that we know little or nothing about.

He said he was saddened that even after being cautioned against going to the police station, many in sponsored transport traversed adding that there was a sign that many have become pawns in other people’s games.

“Yesterday’s incidents were totally unnecessary, to put it mildly. An individual, in his person, was called by the police to answer charges, and yet we saw multitudes of uninvited citizens thronging the police station.

“ What was that about? In the meantime, a situation was created for mayhem and we end up with lives lost,” the President questioned.

Mr. Lungu clarified that no one is above the law including himself saying that for as long as he is a President, he will not allow anybody to usurp criminal justice.

He said Nsama was not just a prosecutor or a lawyer, he was a husband, dad, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin of people who are grieving today and equally, the loss of Joseph, a young man, full of life, taken away because of political activism.

The President warned that Zambia is a haven for peace and that not one will be allowed to turn this country upside down.

“This is the time for all of us to reflect as a country about the Zambia we want to live in. This is not what we are as a country. This is alien. What unites us is stronger than what divides us,” he emphasized.

Mr Lungu has since appealed to the public to stay calm as investigators do their work and resolute against crime and say, no, to political chicanery and demagoguery.

  1. This is how we work in a civilised society. We deal with facts and not just opinions, and unfounded claims like our friends in opposition who were quick to throw blame. Let us now wait for the president to review and give further instructions. Hh can learn a lot about mature leadership from our president. Now let the down votes come my way from angry possessed upnd diasporans. I have forgiven them but their hate is so strong to accept reconciliation

  5. All of a sudden his “heart goes out to the families of those who were killed”?!! Where was his heart when the others were killed by Police? Has he demanded for and reviewed those reports? To date he has not even made mention of it. His spends all his time travelling around politicking and then bemoans that others have made politicking their daily bread. Does he really think people are this daft or is it that he can’t find anything statesmanlike in a situation like this? Very irritating!

  6. The state caused the death of those two innocent Zambians by using the police services who were given instructions to shoot to kill. That’s what happened, to fire live fire arm at an armed crowed id like Sharpeville massacre of South Africa – condemned world over- Zambia police replicated that act. Many Zambians don’t believe what president Lungu is saying over this sad episode of Zambian political phase. President Lungu has power to avoid all lives lost during political violence under his watch – so how can a state prosecutor be killed in cold blood by state machinery. Keep on explaining.

  7. Now we also await the report on Lungu’s economic turnaround plans. It’s sadly been a downward journey since 2015.

Zambia recognizes the value of its nationals living in the diaspora as partners to national development through, among others, being a
rich pool of expertise, sending remittances and participating in private investment/development projects in Zambia (MMD GRZ, 2008).

  9. Surely a balistic expert should give a Professional Report detailing the type of bullet and gun used to murder Messrs Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda. Since the Assasins shot the 2 to kill ,the objective is very clear. The idea was to blame the Victim of Prosecution (HH) as the Culprit for the 2 killings. The Police Report will obviously blame the Opposition as the Assasins. Just wait and see.

  10. KZ GETTING HIT HEARD THESE DAYS I PRAY THE LORD WILL HELP HIM SEE SENSE
AND NOW HE IS A BORN AGAIN WHAT WONDERFUL NEWS AS ONLY THE TRUTH SHALL PASS HIS LIPS
    48 HOUSES ??????????????

  11. Getting a report from a thief about how things were stolen.
The thief will obviously say he/she was not involved. It will not be a surprise if the victim is accused of stealing his own things.

  12. The due process of the law can only take place if the report is submitted to the constitution court and the president steps aside……..already Kampyongo is in hiding or fired in readiness for Kamfinsa prison.

  13. The problems is the same authorities have been seeing un invited crowds following former Minister Chitalu Chilufya who summoned by ACC.. and later case taken to court .they didnt stop Caders not to escort the summoned individual who was not even a Leader.Hor Chitotela was also summoned at some point crowds followed him nothing was said and no warning was issued. All these summons happened before HH was summoned why not stop PF cadres first, why not set an Example as Leaders in power? Blame only come when it’s others who have done so. Same applies to gatherings during Covid pandemic Pf cadres are always gathering and mobilizing with no precaution or following health guidlines

  14. @KZ. you are a retard wanting people to believe that your boss who is a convicted thief will do anything meaningful.

Them two innocent people were killed in cold blood/murdered. Where are the suspects.

Could you also elaborate how your lungu’s wealth has increased exponentially. Is he on a million dollar monthly salary.

The twat will be answerable and fully investigated how he got his wealth from. Don’t give me this BS about born again. Once a Crook always a crook

  15. Police stray bullets killed Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda so the Police Report says. The stray Police bullets came from which guns and who were the Shooters? Who gave orders to the Police to use Live Ammunition against innocent and unarmed Civilians? More questions than answers.

  16. Lungu is good at passing the buck.

Passing on the problem as usual.

Nothing ever gets done when it needs doing.

The nation has not forgotten about the gassing.

“We are in power and need to be respected. The office of the president deserves total respect. If you don’t agree, them leave the country and join diasporans there abroad. We will help you Pack….”

Iwe ka KZ , si Zambia ya nyoko , wamvella….?

  18. Lungu , we all know your intentions were to lock HH up on some cooked up boogus charges and keep him there untill after the new year…….nothing to do with tiyalis rubbish..

only the Unfortunet murder of the 2 individuals forced lungu and his dirty cops to shelve their bogus charges….

  19. The President should make the Police Report public to stop speculation. In Summary what were the Police’s findings? It’s rumoured that Police Stray bullets killed Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda but who pulled the trigger? Who gave orders to the Police to use Live Ammunition against innocent and unarmed Civilians? Is this the way ZPS controls crowd/ protesters?

  20. The ground on where Kaunda and Nsama fell spilling their blood is sacred! The families must visit the spots and pray for the souls of their beloved departed beseeching natural justice for economic truth and forgiveness with a call to peace for unfettered truth!

  21. A full report by the police investigating themselves …really laughable…is toilet tissue is more valuable paper!

  23. Stray bullets killed Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda so the Report says. So stray bullets missed the target which was HH,his UPND Leaders and Lawyers? Clearly the killings were premeditated. Who in particular shot the 2 People. It looks like snipers were inflifrated into ZPS. So what is the Commander in Chief doing about this extrajudicial killing?

“president lungu has handled this well. may justice be served..”

He , lungu is the cause of those murders because he rules over a paranoid goverment hell bent on getting rid of any opposition……

  25. Had hh simply followed rules like a normal human, all this would have been avoided. But you and I both know that hh thrives where there is blood. He gets aroused by the loss of lives. Evil evil. As a new born again I will pray for him

  26. @KZ- Whatever explanations and prevarications made over this case, all Zambians know that PF regime whose president is Edgar Chagwa Lungu killed those two innocent Zambians. Think of families of late Nsama Nsama Chipyoka and and Joseph Kaunda to accept PF explanation made through Zambia Police report. Mocking Zambians with crookedness

  27. Hey mr born again, the same HH you lose sleep over will be elevated to the highest office in the country, so watch your words or else you join the real Kaizar Zulu in the diaspora.

  28. There’s circus in our country ! The simple question is are policemen supposed to use live bullets or rubber bullets on armed citizens and when are live bullets given out at armory.

  29. I hope kakoma kanganja has also included that cop who pointed a gun at lawyer tayali because that’s were the whole episode started from. Those police officers lacked professionalism nowonder their boss is quiet ,we have not heard any comment from either the police command or the minister surely why was the deputy inspector of police relieved of his duties? There are many instances were the police have killed citizens and the president is quiet . It is now becoming normal as it is in Uganda where yowere museveni condones break of rule of law.

  30. This Police Report is biased becoz ZPS was involved in the killings.U can’t have the truth when the Police are investigating themselves. We need an Inquest to undertaken in this matter. That Inquest will reveal who ordered the killings and which Police Officers were assigned to kill the 2 victims. If Police stray bullets killed Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda then who was the target? A judicial inquiry is the way to go and this must be completed within 2 months and b4 the August 12,2021 General Elections.

  31. ZPS are suspects in this killing of Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda so how can they investigate themselves? U need an Independent Investigator to look into the murders of these two victims. An Inquest into these killings is required. We want the truth to come in these Shootings and Justice is required in this Case.

  32. This is the real good news I have got in last one month. Since the firing at Police Headquarters in Lusaka, the country has been undergoing turmoil. The incident is a blot on our peace loving nation. We need to nail the culprits and punish them as early as possible. That will strengthen the faith in democracy and Constitution.

  33. Now is the time to tell the anti social elements that we won’t hesitate to take stern action against anyone who tries to challenge our law and order. We can’t allow free run to the enemies of the society and the nation. It is not acceptable at all. The government must name and shame the culprits who took two innocent lives.

  34. Thought the miscreants took law into their hands, the government and police can’t. It is the wise decision to allow the law to take its own course. That is the way to handle such matters in a civilised society.

  35. Immediately after the incident, HH claimed that it was sniper who killed Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kunda. He needs to be investigated on this claim. Who gave this information to HH? I is a ballistic expert?

  36. Really? If you have the video of police shooting Nsama, then why are you hiding it? Why don’t you give it to the police? Look, brother, this is a sensitive matter. Don’t play with it.

  37. Don’t be so ignorant and don’t trivialise the killing of innocent Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kunda. Your comment hints at you sympathise with those who killed them.

  38. This is such a serious statement! It seems you have clinching evidence to prove that it was the State that killed them. You must know who gave instructions to shoot to kill. Have you given the evidence to police? Be a responsible citizen, release that evidence immediately.

  39. Wow! As it was not a bullet and guided missile that hit the specific target. My dear, Nsama Nsama was not even near the conflict spot when he was shot. He was at a restaurant, buying breakfast away from the vision of police. I must say, you have some chemical imbalance up there causing hallucinations.

  40. Zambians: “What should we expect from State House now that the report has been submitted?”

State House: “Nothing much, nothing much”

  41. The issue is not about who was called or anything along that line. People have rights and one can not jut curtail their rights. The question is why did the killer shoot? What did Sampa or ba Kaunda do to deserve those bullets? Were they endangering anyone?

  42. What about the gassing report , how do you fail to find the perpetrators in a case where 50 people are killed? Unbelievable to say the least n Zambians have turned a blind eye…awe mwandi.

  43. IG Kanganja has done commendable job in expediting the compilation of the report to His Excellency. We are now waiting to hear the facts of what transpired on that fateful day. May the two deceased rest in perfect peace.
