United Party for National Development(UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has announced that the opposition alliance formed to unseat the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) will now be called the UPND Alliance.
With the post on social media, the UPND leader said, that at a meeting held yesterday afternoon with the party’s fellow alliance partners in the opposition to address various issues on how to progress ahead of the August 12 elections, a declaration was made all partners to work together as an electoral pact to liberate Zambia and bring it to normalcy.
Mr. Hichilema further said that partners entrusted UPND with the responsibility to be the flag carrier of the electoral pact, a gesture which the party humbly accepted, adding that the Alliance resolved that going forward, the pact will now be called the UPND Alliance.
Mr. Hichilema further announced that his alliance partners entrusted UPND with the responsibility to nominate a running mate when the right time comes.
“This is not just an alliance with our opposition partners but it is also an Alliance with the people of Zambia. Together we will liberate this country,” Mr. Hichilema concluded.
It was not clear which parties will be part of the partnership, but a key figure missing from the alliance announcement was Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili
Last year Dr. Kambwili made publicly said that that a united front is required to eject president Lungu from Office. In a congratulatory statement to the Malawian opposition alliance’s victory, Dr. Kambwili said an untied resistance team is needed to eject president Lungu and his PF from office.
THE NDC leader appealed to all opposition political parties to learn from Malawi that unity of purpose bears results.
“I appeal to all the opposition political parties in Zambia to learn from Malawi’s case that unity of purpose bears results, and if you are disintegrated you will not achieve anything. This is why, we in the NDC and UPND have been serious about our alliance,”

PF has invited its old Members back to the fold. So Guy Scot, CK , ABC etc are wanted back in PF. Given CK’s integrity and Court Cases it would be dangerous for HH to appoint CK as a Running Mate under the UPND Alliance flagship. CK is untrustworthy in general. Let PF hold its Convention and choose its Leaders then we will see if CK will appointed as a Running Mate to ECL. Is NDC going to hold its own Convention? The period b4 Nominations for Presidential Candidates are going to be interesting.

HH should have consulted widely , include the Church , NGOs and eminent people and including the General Citizenly on how to go about having a working Alliance. Learn to do things differently , most especially if you have failed in the past. At present , among the Opposition Presidents , CK has more weight and he surely can assist the Alliance to get numbers on the Copperbelt , Luapula, Northern ,Muchinga and the Metropolitan towns across the country. There should always be an enterim executive to manage an alliance if the alliance is to be meaningful and bear the fruit of purpose. An the alliance should also be extended to lower orgarns I.e provincial down to district levels. There should be an interim provincial executive as well as an district interim executive respectively.
Don’t be styupid again by appointing Kambwili as running mate. Zambians love and respect Nalumango, HH keep listening from us.

@HardbullZ regional politics are not tolerated in our constitution, any normal party should call the entire zambia its stronghold, because come election time your name will be on the ballot in the entire country, stop this regional segmentation of your political parties.

The UPND Alliance is likely to crumble in its current form because the reason Chishimba Kambwili is advancing does not make any sense. Look what happened in 2016 MMD shallowed its pride and all its members stood on PF ticket. CK is showing a lot of inconsistency. If the NDC is serious they can still appoint some one else other than CK because he has a case yet to determined by the high court and dragging on but soon CK is declared run mate to HH the court will pass judgement upholding the lower court judgement. In any case where do you find MPs standing on their party ticket instead of the alliance. CK’s position is still not clear because of uncertainties. PF must be smiling at the situation in the alliance.

And you call it a democratic leader! If you read between the lines, you will realise that these small and almost non-existent opposition party leaders have been intimidated and forced to toe the line. Now don’t try to tell the world that they are here willingly.
You gather these opposition party leaders, decide the agenda, dictate the terms and you make announcement of your own name! How transparent a process! Still you want Zambians to believe that it was a unanimous decision taken in a free and fair meeting.

Frankly, HH is scared of another loss.
Munchinga, Northern, Luapula, Eastern, Copperbelt, Lusaka & Central Provinces are now extremely hard for HH. Western Province is now a big tossup, as VP Inonge Wina has made inroads for Lungu & PF.
From day one HH has always tried to form alliances that have failed miserably because he is a control freak. HH knows that he is not popular to gainer a win into the state house. This is another fruitless point to dupe Zambians that he has a big following.

1.Mulongoti is dead and gone is party
2.Chipimo and his NAREP don’t want to be aligned with UPND
3.Chishimba has made it clear that he got used by UPND in byelections
Truth be said all these other small parties, are registered parties on one band train political journeys.
He has every right to keep trying. That said, HH has become a dark cloud in UPND, which has a lot of talented people who can grow UPND from his dictatorial behavior.
The death of this alliance is a nightmare for PF. Kambwili and Nervous can each claim heavily in the Bemba speaking regions and thus reducing Lungu’s vote. HH, on the other had will continue sweeping in the western and central provinces something that could see him narrowly win.
Very wise move. I also fully support the name UPND Alliance which stands for UNITED PARTIES for NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, not party but PARTIES. Protecting the votes should be the main campaign message as you embark on massive party mobilization. Remember PF can NEVER win an election without rigging

We’ve seen this before, we’ve heard this before, we’ve smelt this before. When MMD was under mutati, the MMD had to make a decision whether to partner PF or UPND. They went with PF and Mr mutati was subsequently appointed as minister of finance following the victory of their pact. Here is the reason mutati went for PF; he said PF allowed the MMD to exist as a separate entity while they remained in an alliance. The Upnd on the other hand wanted to completely swallow the MMD and absorb it into upnd. All MMD candidates were to stand under upnd. This was pure cannibalism and it was disrespectful.
This is what is happening to kambwili and NDC and am sure Mutati is just laughing. HH has no capacity to learn, he is a fooooooooooooooooooool!!!!!
