Chief Mukuni reported to the Human Rights Commission for championing tribal remarks

Senior Chief Mukuni of Southern Province has been reported to the Human Rights Commission for championing tribal remarks.

Together Africa Without Orphans (TAWO), an organization that has formally lodged the complaint to the commission have noted with concern that the traditional leader risks putting the country on fire with such tribal sentiments.

TAWO country representative Chanda Nonde who disclosed the development to journalists said the last general election was marred with regional voting and violence which resulted in President Edgar Lungu setting up a commission of inquiry whose findings revealed that some traditional were heavily involved in promoting tribalism.

“We therefore want to inform the public that we have formally lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) on the tribal sentiments Senior Chief Mukuni has continued to champion. We call upon the Commission and well meaning members of the public to begin calling out such traditional leaders like Senior Chief Mukuni to avoid going the same path of promoting tribalism in his talk”he disclosed.

He said in the letter to the Commission, many instances beginning in 2015 when Senior Chief Mukuni led Chiefs in Southern Province to conduct partisan campaigns for Mr Hichilema have been well documented.

Mr Nonde further recalled that in 2016 chief Mukuni openly told off some citizens to behave like a Lozi Princess by voting for Mr. Hichilema, which has equally been documented.
“We have followed the activities of Senior Chief Mukuni and we must confess that we agree with the Commission when they found that he had turned tribal in the manner he conducted himself while campaigning for Mr. Hakainde Hichilema” Mr Nonde observed.

He regretted however that the behaviour by the traditional leader has been overlooked for some time and has since called on the nation and institutions of government to take interest in the manner Chief Mukuni has continued to exhibit himself.

  1. Very disappointed in this chief..however, no matter how wrong he is, he remains zambian and our father. So as a born again patriot, I will pray for him.

  2. The PF campaigned on tribal lines in Chilubi and it’s well documented so why pick on Chief Mukuni when other doing it openly like Nkandu Luo? As much as I don’t agree with most of his sentiments I won’t support cadres taking a swipe at HRH Mukuni

  6. What about the Bemba and Eastern Province Chiefs? Was the Report on Voting patterns published? U are reporting a Tonga Chief and not a Bemba, Ngoni and any other Chief. It’s just a waste of time by a PF aligned fake organization. HRC will not waste time on this Report by a dubious Organization.

  7. Chanda Nonde tell Zambians about your chief Chitimukulu – he is the only chief practicing tribalism and chief Mupezeni of eastern province.
GRZ is 75% comprising of Bembas and Ngonis except Sengas and Tumbukas of eastern province. Forget Esau Chulu and Dr Simon Miti, those are Malawians and their parents are known and villages they hail from in Malawi. TAWO would be more relevant if they provide reasons and cause of more GRZ employees coming from Northern province and Chief Chitimukulu does not accept and welcome all other political parties except PF party members and its president – apparently does not even speak any local dialect from eastern province except Bemba.

  8. That’s because he supports HH and seems a died hard for UPND then it’s a problem. Other chiefs in other parts of the country are running behind ECH and the PF then they are not called names and talked about.
When will this country come to be a true One Zambia One Nation or a Christian Nation as perceived ?

  9. It is a great pity that the tribes most educated have never ruled Zambia. WE have been ruled by people who were still herding cattle while others were in school in Sefula or in London.

  10. Anyone who supports HH and makes a mistake will be criticised
But when it’s vice versa everything
    Is ok.Thats Zambian politics.

  11. It is rather difficult for a chief to be neutral as most of them have no allegiance to any other people but to their tribe or clan , however in this dispensation you have to be smart and magnanimous in oder to
    accommodate people visiting your area.
The government is for every Zambian from every part of the nation so people mingle just as they so wish you cannot take them back to your village things have changed completely that is what Chief Mukuni is slow to learn.
Other tradition leaders have already gotten on board and there is no problem with them.
