President Lungu issue directive to allow Local Tank Drivers Transport 50% of the Fuel

Share

President Edgar Lungu has directed that the 50 percent fuel volume allocation to local transporters should be fully implemented without any delays.

The Head of State has also directed that tanker drivers start the delivery of fuel to their respective destinations immediately.

Addressing journalists at his office in Lusaka, Transport and Communications Minister Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya says he submitted the report to President Lungu and he has guided on how the fuel supply chain should not be interrupted.

“Following the directive by His Excellency President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu for me to meet drivers, I interacted with the drivers from Ndola and Lusaka. And as a matter of fact, I also gathered information from other stakeholders including the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Out of these engagements, many issues came up which our drivers brought out. One of the issues brought up was the issue to do with the 50% volume allocation to local transporters which they said was not implemented fully,” he said.

Hon Kafwaya explained that one of the reasons why this was a issue was because of the rates.

He stated that the Petroleum Tankers Association of Zambia (PTAZ) has agreed to lower the rates so that they are competitive thereby making it easier for local transporters to be in business.

Hon Kafwaya also announced that President Lungu wants to ensure that the drivers are treated well when doing cross border transportation.

Later, the Transport Minister went to meet the tanker drivers at the Industrial area who wanted to see him and hear out the resolutions from the meeting he had with President Lungu.

The drivers who spoke in turns appreciated the fact that the government of President Lungu has responded swiftly to their needs.

They urged the government to continue on this path of listening to their cries saying the growth of the economy is dependent on them.

  1. All 100% of Zambia’s fuel should be done by local drivers. Or better yet just build pipelines they’re a safer option.

  3. ECL has been in Power since 2015 so why is this directive being given now? The Man is desperate to buy votes everywhere. On August 12 Zambians must vote wisely and send ECL and PF “ku wire” if they want to avoid the collapse of this Economy.

  4. Can we have a lasting solution and order to several fronts of the Energy Sector, PF. We can’t have these sorts of disorder every election season.
These foreign companies you tolerate in Zambia taking Zambian jobs and flooding our expensively build roads at tax payer expense putting enormous pressure on them.
Build enough capacity on Indeni, the Oil Pipe Line and Rail. Put fuel off the roads. That will be an excellent Zambian Dream. Damn it! I hate to see truckers on our roads. I don’t wanna hear someone say this is where truckers feed their children from. This is disorder. A failed energy policy I must say.

  5. Surely, even if Matthew Nkhuwa hasn’t got a grade 12 certificate can he fail to calculate what 50% is so that it’s allocated to the local drivers? He could have even asked his son to assist

  6. Really laughable his minister of energy is saying one thing about Transporters charging high prices and the bum from State House is there issuing directive after directive…the first one was to order all drivers to get back in their trucks as if they work for State House, has this Lazy Lungu even read the contract terms

  7. Mzambia wa Zamani – That will never happen ..so long as you have the ruling elite in the Haulage business like GBM, the Sable Transport there will be no tangible investment in railway…this is why the likes of Prof. Chriwa were kicked out.

  8. There you go …. GBM Chidumbo and company need to fund elections…they just pushed the button. Anothe way of printing the money for elections.

  9. We have many foreigners and other non politically biased Zambianz desperate to fill the gap left by these bought f00ls. They think that hh will continue funding them when they lose contracts. As we speak I am getting calls non stop from my partners asking when contrzts will be made available to them as there is clearly a shortage of transportation. Let those scums go to hell. If they don’t follow president direction we will bring in other people to do their job.

THATS A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROBLEM ON THE GROUND.
KK INVESTED IN INDENI FOR A VERY GOOD REASON. OMC’s HAD TO PURCHASE FUEL FROM INDENI AND LOCALLY DISTRIBUTE IT TO ALL PARTS OF ZAMBIA.CURRENTLY OMC’s BUY FUEL FROM KENYA,SOUTH AFRICA,TANZANIA,NAMIBIA etc.THIS IS WHAT RESULTS IN THE INVOLVEMENT OF FOREIGN FUEL TRANSPORTERS.
FIX THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND NOT THE SYMPTOM.AVOID POLITICAL POSTURING.

  12. How should a govt Minister resolve critical national issue with drivers at a Road side?On the side an Ethiopian Airline lands on an commisioned Airport in Ndola. Its Zed.

  13. I am sure that the transporters in Zambia must be extremely happy because the roads are so smooth without traffic jams, plus it also has better road connectivity. And, now this news is like a cherry on the cake!

  14. The motto of President Lungu’s administration is to ensure fair treatment for the entire Zambians. No one should be left behind.

  15. And, the minister of transportation informed that the decision taken by President Edgar Lungu will be implemented without fail… End of the suffering of local transporters!!!!

  16. Hichilema must have thought that he got the opportunity to target President Lungu again through the local transporters. But the President took the decision on time as always and shattered the dream of HH… No doubt, he is afraid of President Lungu! ????

  17. President Edgar Lungu always has the solutions for any given situation in Zambia. Our President knows how to take care of its people.

  18. After visiting President Lungu, no one go home with empty hands. Hence, he is called the “Father of the Nation.”
