Government has praised the quality of workmanship exhibited on the Kashikishi-Lunchinda road in Luapula Province. Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota expressed satisfaction with the works on the road during an on the spot check.

Mr Mushota praised the Sub-contractor Visha Construction Company for setting an example of delivering quality works on the road.

He said such local contractors prove that they can be relied on by government to undertake quality projects on time.

“This sub-contractor working on this road is doing fine, previously the main contractor was a concern but since engaging sub-contractors works are progressing well,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary was speaking when he visited the construction site for the Kashikishi-Lucinda road in Chienge district.

And Mr Mushota also appealed to the Road Development Agency (RDA) to increase the number of sub-contractors working on the Kashikishi-Lunchinda Road.

“Works had stalled due to the rain season, but now since the rains are over, the sub-contractor is on site and works are going on well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Visha Construction Company Foreman Brian Mwila who echoed the Permanent Secretary’s words said increasing the number of sub-contractors in government projects will empower the locals.

Mr Mwila said local contractors become confident to perform when they have government’s support.

“I thank the government for the confidence it has put in local contractors because we are now able to get sub contracts from projects such as these, many local contractors need to be given such kinds of contracts,” he said.

He observed that previously governments did not have much faith in subcontracting local contractors but that it is gratifying that now more sub-contractors are being engaged.

“As sub-contractors to this project we pledge to do our best so that we can be entrusted with other projects in the future,” he assured.

  2. This is how myopic the state of affairs have become as its rare nowadays for a contractor to carry out quality works for a basic work package as laying tarmac…what are you doing as PS to encourage local subcontractors to graduate to Main contractors? How can a country that had independence 50 years ago not have main contractors

  3. COME ON GUYS WHAT ABOUT PEDICLE ROAD?
MORE THAN TWENTY FIVE YEARS TWO GOVERNMENTS WORKING THE SAME 30 MINUTES DISTANCE ROAD AND IT’S STILL A LONG WAY FROM FINISHING?
WHOEVER HAS SEEN AND TRAVELLED THIS ROAD WOULD AGREE WITH ME THAT EVEN 1D10TS WHO HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN TO SCHOOL WOULD BETTER THAN OUR CIVIL ENGINEERS AND THE GOVERNMENTS SECTIONS INVOLVED IN DEALING WITH THIS ROAD. THIS ROAD GOES TO A TOURIST DESTINATION AND THE ROAD ITSELF SHOULD BE A SHOWCASE OF THAT DESTINATION. THE COMPLETE ROAD MUST BE GIVEN TO A SERIOUS ROAD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR SUCH AS THE INDIAN COMPANY DOING LUSAKA ROADS TO REDO IT.

  4. IT IS JUST NOT LOOKING AT THE BITUMINOUS. INVESTIGATE WHAT IS UNDER THE BITUMINOUS ALSO BEFORE YOU START PRAISING THEM. OTHERWISE IT WILL JUST TAKE ONE RAINFALL FOR IT TO START FALLING APART.

  5. It pours in Luapula like hell.
I hope this beautiful looking road has taken into consideration the wetty weather conditions for it to last.
Otherwise it is a pretty looking structure to look at. Let’s remember that strength is one of the features of quality.

  6. Which works hv not been praised by government officials only to disappoint after a while? Let’s wait and see.

  7. I just hope this is a pic from zambia….zambians have forgotten how we were almost duped with Nigerian pics..

  8. Fellow commentators, do NOT be fooled! This picture is NOT about the road under discussion! One of the reasons it is blurred is to hide the background details that can reveal the actual location! I know the area from Kashikishi to Lunchinda(DRC border just before Mpweto). I can see from the power lines in the back ground that it is not along that road! The cables on the Kashikishi- Lunchinda road power lines are NOT supported by horizontal bars as we can see in this photo but are each supported on the actual poles!! In fact NOT TOO LONG AGO, Vincent Mwale, Former Infrastructure Minister had told people in that area that the road will NOT be upgraded to bituminous standards BUT TO AN ALL WEATHER GRAVEL ROAD!! That could be one of the reasons the article has not explained what type of…
