Former Justice Minister and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) member of central committee Given Lubinda has said that opposition leader Fred M´membe’s remarks on United Party for National Development(UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema were correct when he warned Zambians not to back the Hichilema ticket saying the majority of Zambians are young and poor and must not support rich and selfish politicians.
Reacting to a radio interview featuring the Socialist Party Presidential candidate on Hot FM, Mr Lubinda said that M´membe a harsh critic of the Patriotic Front (PF) must be given credit despite his weaknesses, adding that whatever weaknesses Dr M´membe ha, he has been right on one thing; spelling out to the Zambians that HH is a five-time loser that must most be entertained by Zambian voters on 12th August.
“Fred M´membe must be given credit for one thing by all Zambians as we approach the polls, for exposing Hichilema as a fraud,” said Mr Lubinda.
During the interview, among other things, Dr M’membe said that the UPND leader has lost more elections than MMD and PF put together and not think that he was taking a “personal hate swipe” at Hichilema.
“HH and UPND have lost elections five times,” M´membe said in a live radio programme taped for Hot FM, “he has lost more times than MMD and PF put together in an election. He has lost elections five times, not intermittently but consecutively which means he is just a loser that cannot be trusted, not even MMD or PF in opposition lost that many times.”
Dr M´membe said that the UPND leader is disillusioned to think that he would win the 12th of August poll given his stellar record of loss.
Dr M´membe further said that given a choice on whom to align with between President Edgar Lungu and Hichilema, he would be on Edgar Lungu´s side because he has a history with him.
“I know President Edgar Lungu because we attended UNZA about the same time but I don’t know Hichilema,” M´membe said before adding that he did not sympathise with either Mr Hichilema or President Lungu despite his soft spot for Mr Lungu over Mr Hichilema.
Lubinda can you explain how Pensioners used to camp outside your office but you used to avoid them by sneaking into your office through the back door. How did you help them??? These are issues that people want to hear not HH HH HH all the time. Talk about what you’ve done in the past 10 years.

(1). This is a gambit. It appears like Lubinda is attempting to split the UPND Votes by using Mmembe to cut into the UPND base. That way HH stands too far away from increasing his vote count. Meanwhile, Mmembe is at the bottom of the sea to even keep himself afloat politically.
(2). Strategically and mathematically Mmembe can’t become president in August 2021. The only thing Mmembe is doing; is to assess if at all he can grow his party and have MP’s in parliament after this year’s General Elections. He desires to become the main opposition party in the next 5 years. Then give it a shot for Presidency. So no surprises that Mmembe is attacking HH. Then again is a very bitter, narcistic and resentful soul.
(3). Now! Mmembe cannot call HH rich and selfish. Because Mmembe enriched himself by arrogantly refusing to pay taxes needed for the poor – to have free Education, Health Care and the list goes. Rather the same poor people, Mmembe pretends to care for. Mmembe still owes Zambia more than $25m in taxes on today’s nearest estimates. He is the biggest fraud in Zambia. In another country, he would be serving time in prison.
As I have said before, I would rather have HH become the president of Zambia than allow a Mafioso like Mmembe to the instruments of power.
(4). HH lost two opportunities, had he teamed up with MMD & RB when the offer was given to him, he could end up leading an MMD-UPND Government from RB. Just as well had HH strategically positioned himself to be the Vice President or Finance Minister to Sata in the 2011 failed “ PF-UPND Pact”, he would have been the President of Zambia after Sata died.
So I understand the frustration when I sit down over a meal or drink with UPND Members of Parliament who are my friends when they come to London. They are tired of many losses, to form a government. !!!
The fallacy of UPND is that the opposition should not say anything contrary to other opposition because the opposition must work as one.
That is the danger. Opposition parties are at liberty to align or oppose each other or even support the ruling party. Freedom of association.

HH and UPND has lost elections 5 times and up to now he has failed to sing a song to win election. The only thing he has achieved is to hold on Southern, North Western and western provinces. Unfortunately for him, in the 12 August 2021 elections, Western and North western provinces have highly melted in the pot, he can no longer wholly hold them because they are no longer interested in parties but in making Zambia a rich country.
