WEEKEND SCORECARD: Kamanga Salutes Late Everisto Kasunga’s 2012 AFCON Legacy

Sports WEEKEND SCORECARD: Kamanga Salutes Late Everisto Kasunga's 2012 AFCON Legacy

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has paid tribute to late association boss Everaisto Kasunga for his role in the 2012 AFCON legacy.

Kasunga, who served as FAZ President from 2000 to 2004, died on Thursday in Lusaka.

“He remains one of the unsung heroes of our game given some of the strides that Zambian football attained under his stewardship. It was during his leadership when he sourced for funding for the construction of Football House, which remains our football shelter to date. This is one of the defining moments of his football legacy,”  Kamanga said at his burial today in Lusaka.

“We also remember Mr Kasunga as a leader in the development of football from grassroots level.

“His determination to invest in youth development saw our country succeeding at tournaments such as the All-Africa Games and nurturing talent that would go on to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

“The 2001 Under-17 team under Simataa Simataa had in its ranks Rainford Kalaba, Clifford Muenga and Davies Nkausu.

Jacob Mulenga, Kalaba, Isaac Chansa and Felix Katongo then regularly crossed over from George Lwandamina’s U20 team to Peter Kaumba’s U23 team that had in its ranks Kennedy Mweene and Christopher Katongo.
