The National Day of prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation National Organising Committee has declared a three day prayer and fasting ahead of the August 12, general elections.
Committee Chairperson, Joshua Banda has called on the church and all peace loving Zambians to join hands in praying for continued peace before, during and after the elections.
This is contained in a statement issued to the media Bishop Banda said that the prayers will be conducted virtually through various media platforms such as television, radio and social media, starting Monday, August 9th , 2021 to Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
He revealed that the three day prayer session will be commemorated under the theme “Actualizing peace and unity in the nation, before, during and after elections”.
Bishop Banda noted that the interdenominational prayers will be led by all the major church mother bodies who will open the programme at 06:00 hours and close at 18:00 hours on the three days.
Bishop Banda further called on all Zambians to join in praying for a peaceful and credible election, whose results will be accepted peacefully by all candidates and electorates.
Zambia goes to polls on Thursday, August 12, 2021.

Dear Bishop Joshua Banda, I know that prayer is important 2u but all we need is a commander-in-chief who is equal to the task of ensuring that every citizen feels protected. Prayer is taken seriously in Nigeria but where’s peace?
In advanced democracies, there are no prayer meetings and the countries do not call themselves ‘A Christian Country.’ People campaign peacefully and vote peacefully. An aspiring MP turned up at my doorstep ALONE, no cadres, no fanfare, to deliver a leaflet and answer a few questions. This cannot happen in Zambia. Every political candidate has to have a security detail. It never happened during the One Party state. The field is not fair. And yet we are at the forefront calling ourselves ‘A Christian Nation!’ This blasphemy may be the reason why we have all these problems.
We shall pray for the nation of Zambia , we all need peace in the nation before and after elections we are not worried with those who cannot pray however we shall take the airwaves to declare the prince of peace to continue to reign in the great nation called Zambia .

I think they were addressing Christians. Perhaps you should see that in the statement. No christian will ever fight against a call for prayer. This is not about Joshua Banda. Besides even if they were as evil as you believe they are Jesus Christ himself had told Christians nog to do what they do but do what they ask because ; believe it or not, it is expected of Christians to seek God in times of trouble or potential trouble. So by all means abscond, go have a beer or sip on some some fine champagne, but let us also have the peace to pray and seek God in this time. You do not need to come.
