There is no justification for the price of fuel in Zambia to be over K26

Share

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) party Acting President Hon Given Lubinda says there is no justification for the price of fuel in the country to be over K26.

Hon Lubinda said the international fuel prices today, are $110 per barrel which could translate to roughly under K17 per litre in Zambia.

“I have said this before that if we were stealing K3 at a fuel price of k15, now that the price of fuel is K26 tell us who is stealing the K11.

“They told us that they will reduce the middlemen, have they done it? Instead, they have even closed Indeni which was supposed to be getting cheaper crude oil to come and refine it in Zambia.,” he said.

Hon Lubinda said the Country is being Governed by business people whose interest is not to serve the citizens.
He said this is why a foreign company has been contracted to supply ZESCO with Poles when that can be done in Zambia.

Hon Lubinda was speaking in Lusaka today, when he went to show solidarity to Hon Raphael Nakacinda who appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates Court in a matter where he is alleged to have defamed the President.

Hon Lubinda said from what has transpired, it is clear that the State is not ready to proceed with the matter.
He said it is important for the state to only prosecute when it is ready to do so. He has wondered how many Zambians will be living on police bond or bail.

“What every ordinary thinking Zambian would have expected from President HH was that he would make it clear that ‘I have been against this law so I would not want it to be applied in my name.’ He has allowed this case to take off when he himself was against the law which arrests people on the grounds of defaming the President. This is playing double standards,” he said

Meanwhile, Hon Lubinda said the party will certainly form Government in 2026.

Hon Lubinda said the party is just on leave from Governing and is building towards becoming the only alternative in the country.

He has since hailed the unity exhibited by PF Members in good and bad times.

  4. Please, Given Lubinda, the fuel you bought today at your local filling station at K26 per litre was not refined from the crude oil that is going at $117 per barrel today. Please can we be serious!!!

  8. Two facets of governance are emerging in some developing African countries. One facet prevailing in South Africa and Rwanda is a humanitarian governance that feels the pains of its peoples by lowering the prices of fuel. Yesterday, South Africa’s Minister of Finance informed Parliament that the Govt was obliged to reduce fuel prices to help improve South African economy. Yet another facet in Zambia thrives on deceit where a Govt increase fuel price by faking that such price rises are due to Russia-Ukraine war. It is a case of either (i) to please the IMF; OR (ii) raise fuel prices as form of revenue to meet costs of “free” Education, Healthdare and other social needs. Apparently Rwanda, South Africa and Zambia have all been importing petroleum products from the Middle East. Zambians…

  9. @Mwansa Kabinga, your Zambia is broke. Your debt to GDP ratio is 108%. You’re one the three most indebted countries in Africa. You have no room to subsidize anything. South Africa and Rwanda aren’t heavily indebted and they have room for subsidies. Just learn to live within your means. It will be irresponsible for the government to create a false economy and risk the erosion of the Kwacha’s purchasing power.. I hope you’re not one of the people who condemned the govt for voting in a favor of the UN resolution calling for Russia not to attack Ukraine.

  10. Here petrol is over 2€/l
    1€ = K20.05 x2 =K40.10n
Zambia does NOT produce oil. Angola does. Out of ignorance Lubinda is complaining.
That man must look outside the box .. other countries abroad have adjust the pump price after the war broke out.

  11. Price of fuel at the pump in Europe has gone up to an all time high and this clown is saying there is no justification…US is going to release a substantial number barrels of crude oil from its reserves to cushion the impact in Europe…US never does that. PF really need to pull up their socks those days of switching of the internat are long..

  12. Look at the above son of a donkey talking about pf as if we are in government. Even when you fark your wife you moan pf. Fark off,!!

  13. The “educated ” Lubinda doesn’t know there’s a huge time lag between today’s trading price and fuel that was refined 2 weeks ago?
