Transfer of magistrates is political-Kabimba

Share

Former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has charged that the decision by the Judicial Service Commission to transfer 10 magistrates out of Lusaka is politically motivated.

Mr. Kabimba says the move is an act of intimidation to the judiciary and meant to pave way for compliant adjudicators to handle controversial cases in favour of the government.

He says the move is because the government has not gotten the expected judgments so far from the subordinate court.

Mr Kabimba who is also Economic Front president has reminded the UPND government that court deals with rules of evidence and procedure.

He says the government is repeating exactly what it was condemning while in opposition with regards the transfer of civil servants by the Patriotic Front.

Recently, the Judicial Service Commission transferred at least 10 Magistrates, among them Lusaka magistrate Jenipher Bwalya who recently discharged former Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela of two counts of possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

  4. A husband who cheats will always suspect that his wife is also cheating. Wynter Kabimba thinks that the way he run the Justice Ministry is the way others are running it. He is extrapolating his own misbehaviour to others.

  7. To every action there will always be a proportional reaction no matter how long it takes. So if these transfers are indeed politically motivated it’ll come back to haunt the perpetrators

  8. This is a very bad precedence. You UPND praise singers who sees nothing wrong with your political party, remember 2026 is just around the corner. No party remains forever in power. What goes around comes around. You are making the same mistakes that led to the PF being kicked out. The 2021 elections were a protest vote against the injustices done by the PF and now you are doing exactly the same, if not even worse. Always remember, the Zambian voter is watching and they are very unforgiving once they make up their minds. The PF learnt the lesson the hard way even with the massive infrastructure development they had scored. Mulabeja on this one. Most of these magistrates have been there even before the PF came into power. Lets not play politics with our judicial system.

  9. Are they the only Magistrates the country has? Are politics only in Lusaka? Where were they working from before they came to Lusaka? Where they told they would only work feom Lusaka? Must the govt fear to transfer its workers because it will be seen as political? SC Kabimba lets assume you have made a good observation advise the govt the best way they should have handled the Magistrates of transferring them wasnt the best. Umuntu takwata cisuma.
