Minister of Local Government Gary Nkombo has stressed that people should not be offended when UPND Government officials highlight the ills committed by the previous Patriotic Front (PF) regime.
Mr. Nkombo acknowledged that some people have been condemning the New Dawn Government for constantly referring to wrongs allegedly committed by officials in the PF Government.
The Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament emphasised that wrong doings must be talked about regardless of whom and when they were committed.
Mr. Nkombo went on to say that PF gave a bad name to cadrerism.
He said cadrerism witnessed during the PF regime was the worst compared to the one seen during the UNIP and MMD regimes.
Mr. Nkombo said cadrerism in PF was intimidating not only to civilians but members of the defence force.
“I want to state that we are coming from a very difficult past and please don’t take offence because you can’t change history. The issue of cadres started a very long time ago,” he said in Ndola when opening the New Kapalala Market.
“The word cadre is not an insult because we are all cadres. There came a time when the name cadre changed, the cadre became associated with intimidation, violence and segregation. Everybody was living in fear,” Mr. Nkombo said.
He warned UPND members against cadrerism especially in markets and bus stations.
Mr. Nkombo said UPND members should find other means of earning a living as opposed to underhand means such as cadrerism in markets or bus stations.
But you are still talking about PF aren’t you? On intimidation from party cadres…. recently on the copperbelt a Upnd district chairman went to one of our health institutions for treatment. There was a long queue so in order to be attended to fast, the chairman started to threaten the staff….twalimishiba muli ba PF…we will soon start to replace you with people who will do what the New Dawn government wants…If that wasn’t intimidation then what is intimidation?

However, if he just sits down in his office he will see that the ministry of local government has so many tasks to complete without blaming previous governments. Cleaning up cities with efficient garbage collection, providing public toilets, trashbins, streetlights, signposts, fire hydrants, replacing township dust tracks with macadamised roads. There’s no time to write a speech blaming PF!

You have one old cadre amongst your midist. He is in fact the father of VIOENT Caderism. He is the one who introduced “by air” during the UNIP era. He is the one who gave a bad name to cadreism.

Fresher wa ku ma ruind, should go back to school and be taught again the importance of learning and discussing History without ceasing in in all various life fraternities. And as a historical writer, I love people who read, discuss and refer issues to history because history helps a great deal solving problems and making life better.
You can highlight the mistakes of past governments so that you don’t repeat them. Just like the next government will also highlight all the mistakes of this current government.
But mistakes are not only made by the previous government so if you are a true Historian you should highlight all mistakes by all previous governments. Otherwise by being selective you are only being vindictive
History is not about highlighting only the negatives. History is about telling both the positives and the negatives. Politricks is about highlighting the negatives of your foe
