MP Given Katuta remains defiant

Share

Luapula’s Chiengi Member of Parliament Given Katuta has remained defiant following her release from police detention on bond after being arrested on allegations of assaulting a photo journalist Contrary to Section 247 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Ms. Katuta was released after meeting bond conditions late on Tuesday.

Times of Zambia journalist Henry Chunza aged 41 of Minestone Ng’ombe Compound alleges that whilst on duty at parliament premises, he was commonly assaulted by Ms. Katuta as he took photos of her after she was suspended in Parliament recently.

Ms. Katuta is accused of screaming at Chunza, spitting in his face and manhandling him with the help of other Members of Parliament.

Speaking after her release from custody, Ms. Katuta described her detention as political and vowed that she won’t be silenced.

“Thank you so much for your support my followers and to those I have seen insulting me, I also thank you for the insults. And those insults have become my lotion. You can insult me; call me names because I am not the first one to be called those names. Archbishop Alick Banda was called names, Bishop Banda from the Pentecost was also insulted, and Apostle (Sunday) Sinyangwe was insulted. You can insult me, you can judge me. You can still call me anything but I will still hold on to my God,” she said in a video on her facebook page.

The Independent MP said she is being judged by the opinion of many UPND followers even before the case goes to court.

“This war is not about me and I have seen everything. Those insulting you are making me popular and people are asking who is this Given. We cannot be silenced even if they have me arrested. I mean convict me for five years, it is OK. Chiengi Constituency is not only the platform where I can voice out. Mandela was incarcerated for 27 years but his voice never died,” Ms. Katuta said.

She continued:”There will be some people who will be saying there was a woman who was incarcerated, who was judged by the opinion of many UPND followers who went to the media houses to write things about her. Even the MISA, everyone was writing about me but it is well with my soul. So for your information I have learnt a lot from my incarceration. I have discovered that we have 31 people that have not been taken to court since February. What kind of justice is that in our country? I am very blessed and I feel honoured that at least I am part of this nation.”

  1. My sister do not waste time arguing with tribalist from the south as they will lie and make you go to jail for nothing. They openly hate people from Northern, Luapula and Eastern Provinces of Zambia. They are too good at lying and would do anything to make you go to jail for nothing. The so called one Zambia, one nation is also fake in their eyes and beliefs and deep down their hearts it’s none existent. The promote regionalism and tribalism openly. Ninshi ku ba Tonga ekwaba fye aba chengela mwa and you cannot critisize them, ninshi watula ingombe ilinso. Shame

    • This is the problem with you people who never want to get the facts straight. You are the tribalist and bent on misleading people. What Given Katuta did outside parliament is her own making and has got nothing to do with the regions you are trying to portray as bad. Would you Hendrix tolerate umuntu ukukufwishila amate pamenso? Let us be honest and call a spade a spade. Ba Given balilufyanya period, it does not matter whether you are in Monze or Mungwi, tatusaka amate kumuntu nangu engalufyanya shani. Ayo mano yabuloshi!

    • Awe mwilaya sana na tribalism. Ine naupa umutonga and they love me more than ingombe shabo. Nshamonapo nakapatulula nganatandala with my noisy, very noisy Bemba family. They are so noisy some other tribes feel intimidated but they are Zambia’s most harmless tribe

  2. Given Katuta, you’re an emotional wreck. What did Sunday Sinyangwe say about HH? You Tube videos are available. Did you hear HH reply to Sunday Sinyangwe?

  3. And these are useless Politicians you expect to develop the country ….once they’re voted into office they become small gods….getting hefty salaries…wasting government resources and spitting on the same people who voted for them….thank God i have never voted in any Zambian election

  4. Spitting on a fellow human being…it can’t get any worser than that…in a developed country she should have been forced to resign with immediate effect and then sent to jail….she’s such an imbecile

    • And do we know if she doesnt have an infection? The reporter should ask the court to demand her samples for a test. What if he has now been infected by her spit?

  5. Dig deeper you will find that those journalists have links to lazy lungu. Even I would have spat on those crazy cadres masquerading as journalists

  6. As opposed to being defiant, she should swallow her pride and apologize to the guy and opt to settle matter out of court. its sad that this is the caliber of people we have as our leaders.

  8. My advice to honourable MP Katuta is to sort this mess quickly out of court, the fact that you are accused of spitting and shouting whilst he was taking pictures the journalist must have tangible evidence and witnesses being defiant will not take you anywhere, its even just far fetched that you are making comparisons with Nelson Mandela he was not spitting in faces of reporters…sort this out and get back to attending to Chiengi Constituency

  9. Spitting in a fellow human beings face is the lowest of the low.
What she has done shows she has no respect for others and indeed lacks self-respect.
She is a despicable and disgusting woman who is criminally minded.
And this person has the audacity to call herself a reverend.

  10. @ Ben
And they even calling this nincompoop of a woman as “Honourable”….like really!!!!….if this nincompoop of a woman is “Honourable”…then we have a very big problem as a country….no wonder i can’t stand Politicians….look at clown of a President Biden….scandals and corruption day in day out and he is busy trying to look for faults in other Politicians

  11. This case must be pursued by the toothless PAZA and LAZ. It affects all citizens. Parliament is supposed to exhibit freedom of speech. Parliament must always carry the respect demanded of the laws that it makes. Otherwise why have parliament?
