The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia has launched the Fox Report, an accountability and advocacy tool designed to assess the state of media freedom and access to information in the country.
The media reports that Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana,
has commended MISA Zambia for its continued work in producing the report since 222.
“The findings will help the government identify gaps and make informed decisions to improve the media landscape,” he said.
Mr Kawana added that the Fox Report is also expected to serve as a key reference point in promoting accountability, access to information, and media rights in Zambia.
He further reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting media freedom and professionalism, stressing that ethical journalism remains crucial in maintaining public trust in the digital era.
MISA Zambia Chairperson, Lorraine Chisanga, said the findings highlight the need to strengthen Zambia’s democratic foundations through freedom of expression and media independence.
She noted that while Zambia remains a beacon of peace in the region, democracy must also thrive on open dialogue and accountability.
Ms Chisanga urged the government to remove barriers that limit journalists’ access to public information, adding that timely access to data helps citizens better understand policies, monitor public spending, and advocate for meaningful change.
She further called for the swift conclusion of the Access to Information regulations, saying they are key to enhancing transparency and public participation.
Ms Chisanga also appealed for collective action from all stakeholders to promote an environment that respects media freedoms and recognises digital rights as essential elements of democracy.
