Kalulushi General Hospital is in need of K15 million to expand its maternity wing in order to enhance maternal services in the district.
The hospital currently has 30 beds in the maternity ward which however, is not enough to meet the high demand for services.
Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent, Mwate Mwambazi, said the hospital is currently facing challenges with bed space in the maternity wing and pediatric section.
Dr. Mwambazi said this during a presentation to stakeholders’ meeting which was attended by Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo and Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Lishimpi.
And Mr Matambo has disclosed that the government will work on the maternity wing in line with the vision of the United Party for National Development government.
He has meanwhile urged the corporate entities in Kalulushi district to contribute towards the construction of a mothers’ shelter at the general hospital.
Speaking earlier, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Lishimpi, commended the provincial administration over the transformation of hospitals in the Copperbelt.
Dr. Lishimpi said the development could only be achieved through working together.
And Copperbelt Provincial Health Director, Charles Mwinuna, also commended management at Kalulushi General Hospital for the improvements made on the health facility
