A new political alliance has been formed between the We’re One Zambia Alliance (WOZA) and the Tonse Alliance, with the bloc endorsing Brian Mundubile as its presidential candidate for the August 13 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during the launch of the Tonse Alliance’s “100 Days of Hope” campaign, where WOZA confirmed it would rally behind Mundubile in a bid to strengthen opposition unity.
WOZA, a coalition comprising parties such as the New Heritage Party, PAC, ULP, United National Independence Party and Zambia We Want (ZWW), said the move was aimed at consolidating opposition forces ahead of the polls.
Speaking at the event, WOZA spokesperson Muhabi Lungu said the alliance had resolved to work with Tonse in support of Mundubile’s candidature.
Senior figures present included Kapembwa Simbao, WOZA chairperson Sakwiba Sikota, Liberty Democratic Party leader Sylvia Namwango Nawa and Zambia We Want representative Auxiliary Bupe Ponga.
Meanwhile, Mundubile used the platform to call for broader opposition unity, urging other political leaders to join the alliance ahead of the elections.
He appealed to figures such as Harry Kalaba of Citizens First, Kelvin Bwalya Fube of Zambia Must Prosper, Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party and Makebi Zulu to unite under a common agenda.
“This moment is bigger than all of us. History is watching, and people are asking whether we will stand divided or united,” Mundubile said.
He stressed that the current political climate demands cooperation among opposition players in order to present a unified alternative to voters.
