RDA Deploys Engineers to Assess Damage to Kankumba Bridge Following Fatal Crash

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has dispatched a team of engineers to assess damage to Kankumba Bridge on the Great East Road following a fatal road traffic accident involving two Volvo trucks in Sinjela Area of Rufunsa District.

According to the Zambia Police Service, the accident occurred at approximately 23:30 hours yesterday, causing significant structural damage to the Acrow Bridge and prompting its immediate closure.

RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Anthony Mulowa said engineers are conducting a comprehensive assessment to determine the extent of the damage and recommend appropriate remedial measures.

Mr Mulowa said efforts are underway to expedite restoration works while ensuring the safety of road users.

He assured the public that updates would be provided as the assessment progresses.

During the temporary closure, motorists were advised to follow traffic directives, use designated alternative routes and exercise caution when approaching the affected area.

The RDA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the safety and reliability of Zambia’s road infrastructure and thanked the public for its patience and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service has announced that the accident scene at Kankumba Bridge has since been cleared and the road reopened to traffic.

Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said normal traffic flow has resumed in both directions.
