Vice President Mutale Nalumango has reiterated that the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, has delivered on promises, restored dignity in governance, and laid a solid foundation for future endeavors.
And the Vice President adds that the UPND’s heritage is building a legacy through development and economic stability.
Ms Nalumango has pointed to free education, bursaries, social cash transfers, and school feeding programmes that are cushioning struggling families as the UPND’s legacy.
She added that the employment of teachers, and health workers, alongside the construction of maternity annexes and new schools, is evidence that the government is delivering on its promises.
Ms Nalumango made these remarks when she appeared on the Hot Fm radio Hot Seat live programme in Lusaka today, where she stressed that Zambia’s external reserves are safeguarded for emergencies, while the national budget remains pro‑poor.
“You can’t eat money in your reserves, remember we had a crisis in terms of drought, and that’s what the reserves now come in,” she said.
Ms Nalumango further added that debt restructuring, fertilizer production, increased power generation, as well as high copper output are stabilising the country’s economy.
“This government has been working to improve and do better,” Ms Nalumango stated.
She reminded listeners that Zambia had moved from just 3,000 megawatts since independence toward a 10,000‑megawatt vision, while tourism has already grown to 2.5 million visitors with a target of five million.
Ms Nalumango further emphasized that the UPND is writing its own script, different from the past, plus focused on jobs, agriculture, energy, and stability.
“We are laying a foundation for growth, and citizens must trust the developmental path being built, and give President Hakainde Hichilema another 5years” she urged.
