Veteran Politician, Chona Endorses President Hichilema for 2026

Veteran Zambian Politician and Diplomat Mark Chona has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema as the country’s presidential candidate for the 2026 elections, saying his leadership has brought peace, stability and purpose to Zambia.

In a statement released to the media, Mr Chona said President Hichilema has remained consistent, focused and resolute in efforts to restore Zambia’s standing internationally and to translate that confidence into economic recovery at home.

He said the President’s vision is clear, priorities are predictable and his leadership has been marked by purpose and discipline.

Mr Chona acknowledged that economic recovery after severe damage is not an overnight event but a gradual process, adding that with patience, sound policies and sustained commitment, benefits will be felt by ordinary citizens.

He singled out the enactment of free education into law as one of the administration’s most transformative achievements.

“The world’s greatest nations have prospered because they invested in the education of their people and by securing free education into law, he has made a lasting investment in Zambia’s future,” Mr Chona said.

The former diplomat also commended the government for restoring peace, stability and security, which he described as the indispensable foundations upon which economic growth, investment and national development are built.

“For these reasons, I believe President Hakainde Hichilema deserves another term to consolidate the progress already made and complete the important work of rebuilding our nation,” he added.

He further linked his endorsement to a statement attributed to the late founding President Kenneth Kaunda in 2008 at his Kabulonga office.

“President Hakainde Hichilema is the fulfilment of President Kaunda’s vision in 2008 when he said, this young man would make a good President.

“It is, therefore, a great privilege and honour for me to endorse him as the nation’s presidential candidate for the 2026 Presidential elections,” Mr Chona concluded.
