MECANMED Supports Three University of Lusaka Students Through New Scholarship Program

The education-focused CSR initiative aims to support talented students facing financial challenges in Zambia

MECANMED has supported three University of Lusaka students through a new scholarship program designed to help talented young people in Zambia continue their education despite financial challenges.

University of Lusaka representatives welcomed the new scholarship initiative supporting local students.

The newly launched MECANMED–UNILUS Scholarship Program provides USD 1,200 in financial support to each student, with three students forming the first cohort of recipients. The scholarship supports students from the University of Lusaka who are pursuing studies in banking and finance, law, and medicine.

For MECANMED, the program is part of a wider commitment to supporting communities in Africa through education, healthcare development, and local talent growth. The company works with hospitals, clinics, medical universities, distributors, and healthcare projects across the region, and believes that long-term healthcare progress also depends on developing future professionals who can serve their communities in different ways.

Among the first recipients is Esther Chulu, a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance student at the University of Lusaka.

Esther Chulu, a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance student, is among the first MECANMED–UNILUS Scholarship recipients.

The scholarship support will help her continue her studies and pursue her goal of contributing to financial literacy, especially in communities where access to financial knowledge and services remains limited.

Another recipient, a Bachelor of Law student, said the scholarship came at an important moment in his academic journey. The support helped reduce the financial pressure that had placed her education at risk and gave his renewed confidence to continue pursuing his legal studies.

A Bachelor of Law student recipient said the scholarship support came at a critical time in his studies.

The third recipient, a Bachelor in Medicine student, said the scholarship will help him remain focused on his medical training. For students preparing for careers in healthcare, consistent academic support can make a significant difference, especially when financial challenges affect tuition, registration, or other study-related costs.

A Bachelor in Medicine student recipient said the support will help her continue his medical training.

A University of Lusaka representative welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the value of private-sector support for students who are working hard to complete their education. The representative noted that scholarships can help remove barriers for students with strong potential and encourage them to continue building professional skills that can benefit Zambia in the future.

MECANMED said the scholarship program reflects its belief that supporting education is closely connected to strengthening healthcare and community development. While the company is known internationally as a medical equipment supplier and X-ray equipment manufacturer, it also sees local partnerships and social responsibility as important parts of its long-term presence in Africa.

“This program is not only about financial assistance,” said a MECANMED representative. “It is about encouraging students who are preparing to become future professionals in Zambia. We are grateful to the University of Lusaka for helping make this initiative possible, and we hope the support will give these students greater confidence as they continue their studies.”

The three recipients represent the first group of students supported through the MECANMED–UNILUS Scholarship Program. MECANMED plans to continue developing education-focused CSR initiatives and hopes to support more students and local partners in the future.

Through this initiative, MECANMED aims to contribute in a practical way to Zambia’s local talent development, while strengthening its connection with educational and healthcare communities in the country.
