President Hakainde Hichilema has assured thousands of residents in Lukulu District that the United Party for National Development (UPND) will continue implementing its development agenda if re-elected in the August 13 General Election.
Addressing a public rally at Lukulu Airstrip on Friday, President Hichilema urged citizens to carefully consider the kind of Zambia they want in the future, saying the country’s continued progress depends on the decisions made by the electorate.
The President said Zambia is now enjoying greater economic freedom under the UPND administration and urged citizens not to return to the challenges experienced in the past.
He said one of the government’s landmark achievements has been the introduction of free education, which has enabled children from vulnerable families to attend school without paying tuition fees.
President Hichilema said education is the greatest investment any nation can make, adding that the Government remains committed to ensuring that children and future generations continue to access quality education free of charge.
He said his administration has also expanded the Social Cash Transfer Programme, increased investment in the health sector, and improved access to clean and safe water in many communities across the country.
President Hichilema further highlighted the construction of schools, health facilities and other community infrastructure through the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), saying the projects are improving service delivery and bringing development closer to the people.
President Hichilema also pointed to the upgrading of the Katunda–Lukulu–Mumbezhi–Watopa Road, saying the project will improve connectivity, facilitate trade and stimulate economic growth in Lukulu District and surrounding areas.
He said although significant progress has been made since 2021, the government still has more work to do in expanding development and improving the welfare of all Zambians.
The President therefore appealed to the people of Lukulu to support the UPND in the forthcoming General Election, saying a renewed mandate would enable the Government to consolidate the gains already achieved and implement more development programmes.
He said continued support for the UPND would allow the Government to construct more schools, roads and health facilities while expanding programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of citizens across the country.
President Hichilema further called on voters to elect UPND councilors and Members of Parliament, stating that working with leaders from the same party would help accelerate the implementation of development programmes and improve service delivery to communities.
