Vice President challenges civil servants to deliver quality service

Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, has urged civil servants to continue working hard and be committed to delivering quality services to the public.

Mrs Nalumango says the government is relying on civil servants to effectively implement programmes that will respond to the needs of the people.

The Vice President was speaking when she addressed Chinsali-based civil servants at Chinsali Municipal Council Hall today.

“If all of us do what we do by working hard, Chinsali will never be the same again,” she said.

Mrs Nalumango also challenged public service workers to support and work with the government of the day in order to accelerate national development.

“You have no option but to work with the government of the day; otherwise you will be pulling in the wrong direction,” she said.

Mrs Nalumango also asked public service workers to familiarise themselves with the United Party for National Development (UPND) manifesto.

She said the manifesto is not political but a developmental document that civil servants should understand.

“You need to know the manifesto and understand what the government wants to achieve for the people of Zambia,” she said.

Mrs Nalumango also stated that the government has brought progressive policies such as Free Education, School Feeding Programmes, and many others.

She said the government has supported decentralisation of services and programmes such as recruitment, promotion and others.

Mrs Nalumango said she was aware of the many issues that civil servants face, such as confirmation, promotions and transfers.

She directed senior government officials to work on these issues and create a conducive environment for other officers.

Earlier, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Tuesday Bwalya, thanked the government for the reforms in the civil service.

He cited the decentralisation of the recruitment exercise to the district and provinces.

Dr Bwalya also praised civil servants in the province for being hardworking.

He, however, urged the office to read the UPND manifesto and understand the agenda of the government.

Meanwhile, a representative of the civil servants, Mashekwa Ikabongo, thanked the government for improving the conditions of service for civil servants.

Mr Ikabongo encouraged civil servants to serve the community with greater purpose.

The meeting was attended by hundreds of Chinsali-based civil servants.
