A four-year-old boy of Mwense district has drowned after falling into a bucket of water.
The incident occurred on Monday around 13:00 hours in Chief Kashiba’s area.
Luapula Province Commissioner of Police, Stephen Palaata, has confirmed the incident saying the deceased child accidentally fell into a large bucket of water headfirst into a large bucket filled with water while his family was attending the burial of a relative.
Mr Palaata explained that while family members and other mourners had gone to the gravesite, the young boy is believed to have attempted to draw water from the bucket before accidentally falling into it.
“The child was later found unresponsive, with his head submerged in the bucket.
Family members immediately rushed him to Kashiba Mini Hospital in the hope that he could be revived, but medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival,” Mr Palaata said.
He added that police visited the scene and conducted a physical inspection, during which they found the body intact with no signs of foul play.
