A 40-year-old man of Msoro Chiefdom in Mambwe District, has been detained by the Zambia police for the alleged defilement of a five-year-old minor.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, identified the accused as George Mwale of Chokani Village, Msoro Chiefdom.
Mr Mweemba said that on July 6, 2026, at around 14:00hrs, the victim was playing with her friends when Mwale persuaded her to follow him on the pretext that he was going to buy her Choco Loco chocolate.
He said Mwale then took the minor to an abandoned house where he had carnal knowledge of her.
He reported that later, an eight-year-old friend of the victim followed the direction where Mwale had taken the 5-year-old minor.
” When the eight-year-old followed where Mwale had taken her friend, she heard her friend groaning in pain in an abandoned house and when she went in, she caught Mwale in the act. She then rushed and alerted a female member of the community who also alerted other people in the village, ” he explained.
Mr Mweemba said members of the community rushed to the abandoned house and caught Mwale in the act having carnal knowledge of the minor.
He said the suspect was then apprehended and taken to one of the Induna’s residence where he confessed to having defiled the minor.
Mr Mweemba said that the suspect was later taken to the police together with the victim by the child’s father.
“The suspect remains in custody while the victim was taken to the hospital where it was established that she sustained swollen, bruised, and painful private parts. with some cuts,” Mr Mweemba said.
