President Hakainde Hichilema says the revival of major mining operations in Chililabombwe District under the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration has revitalised the local economy and created employment opportunities for residents.
Addressing thousands of people at Lubelengele ground during a public gathering, President Hichilema says the reopening of KCM and Lubambe mines, coupled with the establishment of Mingomba mine, has restored economic activities in the district and also improved livelihoods.
The Head of State said his administration remains committed to expanding development programmes across the country if re-elected in the August 13, 2026 general elections.
He said the renewed operations at the three mining firms have created jobs while increasing business opportunities for local suppliers and contractors.
“Indeed we have done a lot in Chililabombwe district in terms of reviving of mines which remained unoperational for years, we have also upgraded the road network, this is why we are appealing to you to vote us into office in the August 13th, 2026 general elections,” he said.
President Hichilema further announced that the government’s 20 percent local content allocation for Zambians in the mining sector will be increased to 40 percent if the UPND is returned to power after the August elections.
He also questioned promises by some opposition political parties to raise the local content threshold to 50 percent in the mining sector, expressing concern over the feasibility of such commitments.
Meanwhile, the President directed Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company to urgently resolve the persistent water supply challenges affecting Chililabombwe residents, warning that failure to improve service delivery will result in action being taken against the utility company.
He noted that the district has endured erratic water supply for a prolonged period and stressed the need for immediate intervention.
“Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company, I direct you to quickly ensure that the erratic water challenges are addressed or else ‘nkamichita ububi’,” literally warning of severe consequences for failure to comply with the directive,” he said.
The President also appealed to the people of Chililabombwe to turn out in large numbers and vote for the UPND in the August 13 general elections.
And Chililabombwe Constituency Aspiring Candidate Paul Kabuswe urged residents to support President Hichilema and UPND candidates, to ensure continued development in the district.
Mr Kabuswe said Chililabombwe has recorded significant improvements in township roads, health infrastructure and other public services under the UPND administration.
“People of Chililabombwe go and vote on August 13th for President Hichilema, Members of Parliament and Councillors for continued development,” he said.
Earlier, UPND Chililabombwe District Chairman Rodson Mando commended President Hichilema for the delimitation exercise, saying the creation of two constituencies will result in the increased Constituency Development Funds (CDF) allocation.
