The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has revised bus fares nationwide following the recent reduction in fuel pump prices announced by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and approved by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
The revised fares took effect on July 6, 2026.
On June 30, the ERB announced a reduction in fuel pump prices, with petrol decreasing from K27.25 to K26.15 per litre, diesel from K32.11 to K28.11, kerosene from K33.91 to K28.32, and Jet A1 fuel from K36.68 to K30.27 per litre.
RTSA Head of Public Relations Chilufya Mwelwa said the fare adjustment followed consultations with bus operators and the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia.
Ms Mwelwa said passengers travelling on inter-city routes will benefit from an average fare reduction of 6.2 percent, while fares on inter-mine routes have been reduced by K3.
She added that bus fares within Lusaka have been reduced by K1, while commuters travelling on peri-urban routes between Lusaka and surrounding towns will pay K3 less.
Ms Mwelwa further said fares on local routes in the Copperbelt and other towns have been reduced by K1.
She called on all public service vehicle operators to comply with the revised fares, stating that the new rates are effective immediately.
